New Charity Fund Opens For Bids
21st June 2012
Charities and social enterprises can bid for a share of £2.5 million to help young people find employment from today.
Minister for Youth Employment Angela Constance formally opened the fund in Dumfries, where she met local businesses and employment groups.
The fund will support third sector bodies to work with employers and help young people into training or employment.
Ms Constance said:"The Scottish Government is committed to tackling youth unemployment and are funding a wide range of schemes around the country to help young people facing difficulties in finding a job. We have also guaranteed all 16-19 year olds the offer of a place in education or training through Opportunities for All.
"The third sector has a proven track record in supporting young people in very difficult circumstances and has a lot to offer people who are seeking work.
"This is a challenge fund, and my challenge to the third sector is to build on the good work it already does and work more closely with employers to generate opportunities for all our young people, including the most vulnerable, to help them into work."
