Thurso Soap Box Grand Prix Challenge
30th July 2012
The Rotary Club of Thurso are inviting budding engineers and willing competitors of ages 8 to 88, to participate in the Thurso Soap-Box Grand Prix, at 1.00pm on 8th September 2012, at The North Highland College. The idea is for individuals or teams to design and construct the fastest, most attractive and most entertaining free-rolling soap-box kart they can. All standards of manufacture are welcome, especially beginners. Engineering skills and driving performance will be tested on a time-trial track at the College. The event is also open to pedal-car drivers too, as we are aware that participants may already have such ready-made vehicles to run.
The track finishes in front of The North Highland College's new ETEC Building. The ETEC Building will be open to visitors during the event, along with an invitation to view this excellent cutting-edge educational facility.
Entries may be submitted by individuals, clubs or teams of individuals. Participants may submit an entry that follows a particular theme. Small prizes will be awarded for fun, for various achievements in various categories, as decided by the organisers on the day. Any monies raised by the event, will be used to support Thurso Rotary Club causes.
Entry to the event is strictly by pre-registration only. The cost of entry is £5 per kart (in advance) + £1 per driver (payable on the day). Forms are available from The North Highland College, D Sinclair & Co, LED Scotland Ltd or Arch Henderson LLP. The closing date for registration is 25th August 2012.
We are also delighted that our construction/motoring theme will be enhanced on the day by the North Highland Young Engineers, with a demonstration of their Greenpower competition electric cars. The possibility of augmenting the event with other associated attractions, is presently being investigated.
