24th June 2026
Amazon Prime Day 2026 is taking place from 23–26 June, making it a four-day event rather than the traditional two-day sale. Amazon moved it forward from its usual July slot this year.
How big are sales expected to be?
Analysts are expecting another record year.
US Prime Day sales were estimated at around $14.2 billion in 2025.
Research from EMARKETER suggests 2026 sales will rise again, although growth is slowing as Prime membership reaches saturation in the US.
A survey of Prime members found 88% expect to buy something during Prime Day 2026, up from 81% who shopped the event last year.
Most retail analysts appear to be expecting US sales of around $15–16 billion, with global sales considerably higher once Europe, the UK, Japan and other markets are included. While Amazon does not release a global Prime Day sales figure, the event is now regarded as one of the largest retail events in the world.
Why does this matter for the economy?
Prime Day has become something of a mini-economic indicator.
Strong sales would suggest:
Consumers still have spending power despite higher living costs.
Retailers may enjoy a stronger summer trading season.
Household finances are holding up better than expected.
Weak sales would suggest:
Consumers are becoming more cautious.
Households are prioritising essentials.
Retailers could face a tougher second half of the year.
A useful angle for your blog
The interesting question is not whether Amazon will have a good Prime Day—it almost certainly will.
The bigger question is:
"Are shoppers buying because they feel confident about the economy, or because they are waiting for major discount events before spending?"
That distinction tells us much more about the true state of household finances in 2026.
