O2 has warned customers to be wary of a new scam text message which appears to have been sent by them and says your SIM card will be deactivated unless you take urgent action.
The message asks you to click a link to sign in to your O2 account and accept updated terms and conditions, supposedly to keep your SIM card active. They use a sense of urgency to panic people, saying that you must log in to your account within 24 hours.
The link leads to a scam O2 website where you are asked to enter your login details and confirm contact details.
O2 have confirmed that these messages are scams - they are not sending text messages that threaten SIM card deactivation unless you accept updated Terms and Conditions.
How to Avoid
Don't click links in unexpected emails.
If you receive a similar message and are unsure if it is real, log on to your O2 account via the official website or app rather than clicking a link.
Scam text messages can be forwarded to 7726.
