Update on flooding and roads
25th December 2012
Areas of Scotland affected by recent bad weather are now on the way to recovery, though a Highland road closure shows the importance of preparing for travel.
Environment Minister Paul Wheelhouse, who visited Stonehaven and Brechin yesterday, said good progress is being made with the clear up in affected areas and thanked workers who have helped deal with the flooding and keep Scotland moving for Christmas.
Mr Wheelhouse said:“Scotland is well on the way to recovering from the recent flooding and adverse weather conditions. All the signs show that the effects of the severe weather are declining and progress is being made with the clear-up.
“On behalf of the Scottish Government, I would like to thank workers across Scotland. Many individuals have gone above and beyond to help make sure we get back to normal as quickly as possible and this effort is paying off.
Minister for Transport Keith Brown said:“While the weather is forecast to be better today, it is still crucial that anyone travelling over the next few days plans their journey carefully. This is clearly shown by the landslip and closure today of the A890 in the Highlands, which I know teams will be working to clear urgently.
“Before starting a journey, we’d advise checking weather forecasts, Traffic Scotland, SEPA’s floodline and tuning in to local radio. This will help people prepare for local weather and travel conditions and enjoy a safe journey.”
