Norscot Contract Wins Mean More Jobs In Caithness
7th March 2013
Norscot the Bower based window and door manufacturer has got of to a flying start in 2013. During the first two months of the year the company has won a clutch of contracts worth more than £1 million.
Foremost amongst these are works at Rosebank, Nairn and Kingussie schools for The Highland Council. Further work for The Highland Council has also been secured in Spittal, Halkirk and Thurso, in Caithness. And, Inverness and Aviemore.
According to Norscot’s commercial director, Callum Grant, securing the two school contracts is potentially a huge boost for future sales of the company’s Design 5 aluminium clad timber composite window system. Callum explained, “We have previously supplied thousands of these windows to The Highland Council. But, recently, the Council moved from product to performance based specifications. This meant we had a significant investment in time and money to meet the new criteria”. He continued, “The acceptance of our Design 5 window for these contracts should allow us unrestricted supply opportunities on Highland Council projects in future”.
Particularly welcome news has been the award of the first of what it is hoped will be many orders from Moray Council, under a new two year framework agreement. This order is for timber windows to homes in Lossiemouth.
Work has also been won in the private sector. Most notably for John Fraser & Son Funeral Directors, for their new office in Dingwall, The Waterside Hotel in Inverness and Bower Community Hall.
Last, but certainly not least, the company has secured further work for Natural Retreats at John o’Groats. Having successfully completed a design and build contract for the 23 residences last year, Norscot were commissioned to supply the timber frame structure for the hotel extension comprising a further 19 self-catering units. This latest order is for the manufacture of high quality internal door sets.
Norscot’s managing director, Ian Body, said “We are delighted to have secured this level of work which was won against stiff competition, in what remains a difficult time for the construction sector”. He added “We anticipate this will result in us creating at least 6 new jobs in our Bower Workshops and on site”.
