A9 slip roads to be closed to allow completion of golden bridge

As part of the planned installation work on the pedestrian and cycle bridge at the Inverness Campus, the north and southbound slip roads on the A9 at the Raigmore Interchange will be closed with traffic diversions put in place from 1900 on Saturday 15th June to 0700 on Sunday June 16.

Northbound traffic traveling into Inverness or to the A96 will be diverted off the A9 at Inshes Junction, Sir Walter Scott Drive. Traffic will then be routed along Old Perth Road to Millburn Roundabout. Traffic continuing to travel to the A96 will join the road at the Raigmore Interchange.

Southbound traffic wanting to join the A9 at the Raigmore Interchange will be diverted along Millburn Road and Old Perth Road and then back on to the southbound A9 at Inshes Junction.

The short diversion will allow construction and infrastructure company Morgan Sindall to safely fit four cladding panels, each approximately one metre sq, onto the side of bridge.

The 84 metre pedestrian and cycle bridge, which spans the A9, was installed in April for the Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE). The bridge links HIE’s multi-million pound Inverness Campus development with the city centre and life sciences cluster, including Raigmore Hospital, LifeScan Scotland and the Centre for Health Science.

Kevin Gallacher, contracts manager at Morgan Sindall, said: “Morgan Sindall is grateful for the patience and co-operation of the public throughout this planned phase of the construction process as we prepare to deliver the final stages of the Golden Bridge installation at the Inverness Campus. The bridge is already a landmark in the area and we are looking forward to its official opening later this year.”

Ruaraidh MacNeil, Project Director at HIE, said: “To minimise disruption, Morgan Sindall is carrying out this final planned piece of work on the bridge overnight. The team is putting the gold coloured panels in place over the four jack points used for the installation. It’s great to see the finishing touches being put in place on this striking link between the city and Inverness Campus.”
