Tour Your Local UHI Campus

The four North Highland College UHI (NHC) campuses are ever expanding and having had over £11 million invested over the last five years, is now opening its doors to offer campus tours for the general public.
The scheduled tours are available to book online via the college website - www.northhighland.uhi.ac.uk and will entail a general tour of one of the four campuses based in Thurso, Halkirk, Alness and Dornoch. Prospective students are able to register their interest in a particular subject area with the opportunity to chat to staff and students and the tours will be available twice per month.
Each campus is tailored for the niche courses it has on offer. In Alness, Music and Sound Production students can enjoy making as much noise as possible in the insulated sound booths, without disrupting the Care students who are situated above them.
Courses delivered from Dornoch see students benefit from the experience of training at the Burghfield House Hotel – the college’s working training hotel and is also home to the UHI Centre for History which offers an abundance of History courses available to study online.
Within yards of Royal Dornoch golf course, lies Ross House which has a newly built Huxley Golf all-weather putting green and is home to the BA (Hons) Golf Management students.
In Halkirk, is the NHC Land-Based Centre of Excellence which boasts international indoor and outdoor arenas and was opened in 2013 by HRH Princess Anne. Equestrian and Gamekeeping students are currently situated here and will be joined by Veterinary Nursing students in September 2014.
In Thurso, the college’s fantastic Engineering, Technology and Energy Centre (ETEC) is a site well worth a visit. It is believed to be amongst the largest and best equipped of its type in the North of Scotland, providing approximately 3,600 square metres of purpose built engineering facilities, dedicated to the engineering and renewable energy sector.
Another infamous building in Thurso is college’s Centre for Energy and the Environment (CfEE) which is home to the Environmental Research Institute. The centre is a 21st century research, teaching, training and learning environment and contributes to the economic, environmental, social and cultural development of the region.
The Thurso campus also has a commercial training facility - the House of Morven, where students who are studying within the Service Industries section will gain real customer service experience in the salons and training restaurant.
The North Highland College UHI is a fantastic place to study and attracts students with many different interests. The majority of courses are very practical and hands on – so the surrounding area of wild, unspoiled Scottish scenery is the perfect place to kick back and enjoy the great outdoors.

Tartan challenge for UHI students offers £1,500 prize
Students from across the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) partnership have been challenged to design a tartan and be in with a chance of winning a £1,500 cash prize. Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has launched THE COMPETITION to mark 60 years since the regional development agency (then named Highlands and Islands Development Board) was established in November 1965.

UHI and SQA announce new pathways for learners with articulation agreement 
The University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) and Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) have announced the signing of a new articulation agreement. Yjis will allow learners who have completed SQA's Higher National Certificates and Diplomas to seamlessly progress onto UHI degree programmes at advanced levels increasing accessibility to higher education and streamlining progression pathways.
