£1.5M further resurfacing investment to address trunk road surface deterioration in North West Scotland

25th January 2018

BEAR Scotland to undertake repairs and resurfacing with additional funds from Transport Scotland.

BEAR Scotland is undertaking an essential programme of works across trunk roads in the North West of Scotland to address the accelerated road surface deterioration caused by recent winter weather conditions, where the freeze and thaw cycle has weakened the carriageway.

Transport Scotland has provided £1.5M on top of resurfacing schemes that were already planned for 2018, in a bid to address the weather related road defects and ensure the lifeline trunk roads in the North West of Scotland are safe for road users. In many instances this will allow a more permanent solution to temporary pothole repairs that have been carried out at locations where the defects have been deemed most urgent.

A key focus for the repairs is the A82, A83 and the A85 which has seen deterioration of the road surface in a number of locations.. The acceleration of works requires planning on matters such as designs, network availability, quarry location, timings and resource/programme conflicts. Any schemes which cannot be delivered this financial year will be delivered early in 2018/19.
