Major Progress As Options For Longman Junction Go On Display
30th May 2018
Everyone north of the Kessock Bridge will be thankful for improvements to this junction. So many of us have wasted time and burnt fuel waiting to get through it. Early days but it seems things are now moving towards a solution.
The design work to upgrade the traffic bottleneck at Longman roundabout in Inverness has reached an important milestone.
The public are now able to see and comment on five options that have been developed for grade-separating this busy junction in the Highland capital.
Public exhibitions are being held today at Inverness Town House and tomorrow at Inverness Caledonian Thistle's Football Stadium for the Longman Junction Improvement scheme.
Transport Minister Humza Yousaf said:"Improving the traffic bottleneck at Longman is a key priority of the Scottish Government and we have been working hard to develop possible options for this important junction and we can now let the public see and comment on five options under consideration.
"The Longman Junction Improvement scheme is part of the Scottish Government's commitment within the £315 million Inverness and Highland City-Region Deal. As well as Longman, significant investment will be made in the trunk road network to deliver the A9/A96 Inshes to Smithton Link Road. When completed, these schemes will reduce congestion and improve accessibility to Inverness.
"I would encourage anyone with an interest to come along to one of the venues today or tomorrow to view our plans for Longman and to have an opportunity to discuss them with our team and provide comments. The vital feedback received will then be taken into account as we look to identify a preferred option early next year."
