This experimental statistics release is the sixth in a series about the devolved Scottish employability services. This edition publishes statistics for the first nine months of Fair Start Scotland, which launched in April 2018; the first twenty one months of Work First Scotland and Work Able Scotland, both of which launched in April 2017; and the first six months of the Health & Work Support Pilot (HAWS), which launched in June 2018.

This edition also includes the first release of statistics (referrals and starts) at Local Authority area level for Fair Start Scotland, and the first release of statistics on The Health & Work Support Pilot. Information on those referred to (‘referrals') and subsequently enrolling on the service (‘enrolments') is presented, along with demographic information for those who enrol.

Information on employment outcomes (‘job outcomes') for Work First Scotland and Work Able Scotland participants is included in the publication, as are figures on those entering employment (‘job starts’) and those leaving the services early (‘early leavers’). Information on referrals and starts to the services, as published previously, is also included.

Key findings

Up to 31 December 2018:

•7,031 people joined Fair Start Scotland (FSS) since its launch in April 2018

•Of those referred (12,969), 55% of people chose to join FSS

•1,913 Work First Scotland and Work Able Scotland participants had started jobs

•544 people enrolled in the Health & Work Support pilot since it was launched in late June 2018

Transitional services employment outcomes

Work First Scotland

As at 31 December 2018, 21 months after the service was launched:

•1,700 participants had entered employment (achieved a ‘job start’)

•1,176 participants had entered employment which lasted at least 13 weeks (achieved a ‘short job outcome’)

•938 participants had entered employment which lasted at least 26 weeks (achieved a ‘sustained job outcome’)

Work Able Scotland

As at 31 December 2018, 21 months after the service was launched:

•213 participants had entered employment (achieved a ‘job start’)

•152 participants had entered employment which lasted at least 6 weeks (achieved a ‘short job outcome’)

•66 participants had entered employment which lasted at least 26 weeks (achieved a ‘sustained job outcome’)
