Vacancies and jobs in the UK - May 2025

The estimated number of vacancies in the UK fell by 42,000, or 5.3%, on the quarter, to 761,000 in February to April 2025, which was the 34th consecutive quarterly decline.   Total estimated vacancies were down by 131,000, or 14.7%, in February to April 2025 from the level of a year ago, and 34,000 (4.3%) below their pre-coronavirus (COVID-19) January to March 2020 level.

Earnings and employment from Pay As You Earn Real Time Information UK - May 2025

Early estimates for April 2025 indicate that the number of payrolled employments was 30.3 million, a fall of 0.3% from April 2024; this is equivalent to 106,000 fewer employees.   The largest increase was in the health and social work sector, a rise of 87,000 employees; the largest decrease was in the accommodation and food services sector, a fall of 107,000 employees.
