Winners Of The Next Election Will Govern Universal Credit Britain - With Working Renters Winning Out From The Reform, While Those With Disabilities Face Major Income Losses

Universal Credit (UC) is on track to be fully rolled-out to seven million families by the end of the next parliament, with working renters the main winners.  Those with disabilities the main losers from the reform as it faces up to new challenges like rising long-term sickness, according to new Resolution Foundation research published today (Monday 15 April 2024).

Enhancing Social Care Services

More than £9 million is being made available over the next three years to give people who access social care more choice and control over decisions relating to their care.   This funding builds on an additional £2 billion investment in social care and integration, as part of the Scottish Budget for 2024-25, and delivers on the Scottish Government's commitment to increase spending by 25% over this Parliament - two years ahead of the original target.

Public Procurement Generated More Than £13 Billion In 2021-22

Scotland's public sector procurement spend generated more than £13 billion in economic activity and contributed £7.5 billion to Scotland’s GDP in 2021-22, a new report has shown.  The fifth annual report on procurement activity in Scotland shows that in 2021-22 public sector procurement spend during the year reached £16 billion with £8.9 billion spent in Scotland.

Independent Candidate Wins Inverness South Bi-election

The by-election to elect a councillor to represent Ward 19 - Inverness South on The Highland Council has been won by Duncan Cameron McDonald - Independent who was one of the eight candidates who contested the vacancy.   Voters in the ward went to the poll yesterday (Thursday 11 April) and the by-election count was held this morning in The Highland Council Headquarters in Inverness.

£33 Million Of Drugs Seized By Royal Navy In The Middle East

HMS Lancaster seizes almost £33 million worth of drugs in the Middle East.   In another blow to drug smugglers, Royal Navy warship HMS Lancaster seized drugs with a street value of nearly £33m as she struck twice against traffickers in the Middle East inside 24 hours.
