Wick And Thurso High Schools Closed Due To Industrial Action On Wednesday 11 January

Wick and Thurso High schools will be closed to pupils on Wednesday 11th January 2023 due to industrial action taken by members of the EIS and SSTA teaching unions.   Other schools may also be affected so parents and guardians should check before sending children off to school..  

Name For Merger College Revealed | Ainm Na Colaiste Cho-aonaichte Air Fhoillseachadh

A NEW college for the North and West Highlands and Outer Hebrides will be known as UHI North, West and Hebrides when three UHI colleges merge.   Last month the boards of management at UHI North Highland, UHI Outer Hebrides and UHI West Highland formally approved the merger proposal and business case, which will see them come together as a single UHI college from August 2023, pending Scottish Government approval.

18 November 2022 Dear Parent/Carer Industrial Action -Teaching Unions You may be aware from coverage in the media, that the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) and the Association of Head Teacher and Deputes in Scotland (AHDS) unions have indicated their intention to take strike action on Thursday 24 November 2022.  This action is part of a national dispute regarding pay.

UHI has appointed Vicki Nairn as Interim Principal and Vice-Chancellor.   Vicki joined UHI as Vice-Principal Operations from Robert Gordon University where she held the roles of Vice Principal Corporate Operations, leading the development, delivery and implementation of corporate, financial, commercial and resource strategies.

Change Needed To Overcome Colleges' Challenges - Financial and Students Drop Out Rate

Scotland's colleges responded well to Covid-19, but changes are needed to ensure they are financially sustainable in the long term and more students graduate.   Covid-19 funding contributed to a better-than-expected end of year operating position for the sector in 2020-21.  

Wick High School Open Again - Thursday 17th March

We are glad to report that the school will be open tomorrow, Thursday 17th March.   Tomorrow is also a fundraiser for Ukraine with staff and pupils being asked to wear something blue or yellow to support the aid effort.  

Wick High S2 Computing Students Excel In National Challenge

This year, Wick High S2 Computing Science pupils took part in the BEBRAS UK Challenge.  The challenge aims to introduce computational thinking to students and is designed to get students all over the world excited about Computing.
