Councillor Nicola Sinclair will stand down as an independent councillor for East Caithness on 25th June 2021. She will take up a position as reporter for the Press and Journal returning to her former career as a journalist.
All eligible young people are being encouraged to apply for a weekly, term time allowance of £30 per week from August 2021. The Highland Council administers Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) in respect of eligible young people from across its 29 secondary schools.

More than 90,000 primary school pupils will be entitled to new free school meal support in term time. The Scottish Government and local authority partners have reached agreement to introduce universal free school lunches for primary 4 and 5 children and targeted support during school holidays for all eligible primary and secondary children and young people.

£22 million this year towards meeting climate change targets. Projects to restore Scotland's peatlands will get a share of £22 million this year to significantly reduce carbon emissions and support biodiversity as part of the government's climate change plan.
Airline suit work has restarted at Dounreay after more than a year's delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Wearing an airline suit is cumbersome and the wearer needs to be dressed and undressed by a dedicated team of helpers who then provide support throughout the task.

"Thurso Legion is starting a regular drop-in cafe for the Veterans community - please come and join us for our first session! We offer a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and a place to meet like minded souls for refreshments and conversation. We will also have a representative from the Veterans Community Support Service available at the first drop-in to listen and assist with any issues Veterans or their families may have.

Final version of "Making Scotland's future - a recovery plan for manufacturing" following the 10-week consultation of a draft plan published in Dec 2020. This details a revised set of actions, established by industry, public sector, trade union and academia, to be taken forward by the end of 2021.

Under the Military Aid to the Civil Authorities (MACA) scheme, personnel from across all three services will be deployed on the tasking from Monday 7 June for up to five weeks. Helping to accelerate Scotland's vaccination delivery programme, the support will comprise of: 42 service personnel to NHS Lothian: made up of 36 vaccinators, 4 registered health professionals and 2 command and control managers.

A three-year strategy to help in the recovery of the tourism industry in Caithness and Sutherland has secured £365,000 investment from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE). Destination management organisation (DMO), Venture North, is leading the project, which will create the equivalent of three full-time jobs.
