.Update Daily Record 26 October 2019 Scottish Labour has removed one of their candidates after an internal party probe into comments he made on anti-semitism.   Bill Curran wrote that he stood with controversial MP Chris Williamson, who was suspended after claiming Labour had been "too apologetic" over the row about anti-Jewish sentiment in the party.

Council and HITRANS call for balance in road provision
The Highland Council and HITRANS are speaking out against the call from walking and cycling organisations to cease all new road building in Scotland.   Cycling Scotland, Cycling UK, Forth Environment Link, Living Streets, Paths for All, Ramblers Scotland, Sustrans Scotland and Transform Scotland issued the call as part of a joint response to the National Transport Strategy.

Be aware! Council Tax scammers still targeting Highland
The Highland Council has once again been alerted to a Council Tax scam where scammers are now writing to customers and claiming that the resident is due a council tax refund or can have their Council Tax band reassessed upon payment of £150.   Council Tax bands are determined by the Assessor and Electoral Registration Officer who is independent from the Highland Council.

Extra funding of almost £3 million is to be invested in broadband for the Highlands and Islands after take-up rates across the region's Digital Scotland fibre network topped 60%.   Hundreds of additional homes in some of Scotland's most rural areas will be able to access ‘full' fibre direct to their homes (also known as Fibre-to-the-Premises or FTTP) through the funding boost.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (October, 23rd) sold 333 weaned calves and store cattle and 5 breeding cattle.   Stot calves (207) averaged 207.9p and sold to 336.6p per kilo for a 205kg Limousin cross from 4 Borve, Isle of Harris and £1,160 for a pair of 637kg Simmental crosses from Ballone, Abriachan.

Scottish Insolvency Statistics: July To September 2019 - Insolvencies Increase
Accountant in Bankruptcy (AiB) has released official statistics reporting personal and company insolvencies in Scotland for the second quarter (July to September 2019) of 2019-20.   There were 3,466 personal insolvencies (bankruptcies and protected trust deeds (PTDs)) in Scotland in 2019-20 Q2, more than the 3,077 personal insolvencies in the same quarter in the previous financial year (2018-19 Q2).
