Deadline extended for comments on Cairngorm masterplan document

Cairngorm Estate owner, Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), has responded positively to a request from stakeholders to extend the deadline, which was originally to be 31 August.   Deadline extended to 15 September.

£5m Precision Technology Project To Focus On Sheep Welfare Management

A £5 million research project involving nine countries - from Scandinavia to the Middle East - is aiming to revolutionise the use of precision technology in sheep and goat farming.   Led by Scotland's Rural College (SRUC), TechCare will be the biggest study of its kind for small ruminants and will focus on improving management of welfare as well as performance.

Welcome For Lerwick Port's Biggest Decommissioning Project Yet

Delivery of the 14,200 tonne Ninian Northern platform topside on Friday (28 August 2020) also marks the inauguration of a new, heavy-duty decommissioning pad at Dales Voe Base.  The facility has been developed by Lerwick Port Authority, with support from HIE, expanding the capability to keep UK sector decommissioning projects in the UK.

Inverness Castle Viewpoint Reopens This Week

High Life Highland has today announced that a popular visitor attraction in the city will reopen its doors to the public for the first time since 20th March.   The Inverness Castle Viewpoint, which allows for 360-degree views around the City of Inverness and beyond, will be back to offer birds eye views from 11am on Friday 4th September.

Rural Role In Green Recovery - £160 million investment for forestry and agriculture

Scotland's rural economy will be at the heart of the green recovery, Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing said.   An additional £100 million was announced in the Programme for Government for Scottish Forestry to increase new planting, alongside £30 million to Forestry and Land Scotland to expand national forests and land.

Quarantine Measures Introduced For Travellers From Greece

Importation of new cases remains ‘significant' public health risk.   Travellers from Greece will be required to self-isolate at home, or another specified address, for 14 days on arrival in Scotland from 4am Thursday morning (3 September).

Educators To Address Attainment Gap With Equity Week

 Education specialists from across the North-east, North and West of Scotland are to deliver a week-long series of digital professional learning events for teachers and practitioners from the end of September as part of a drive to increase awareness about child poverty in Scotland and the impact this has on learning.   Led by the Northern Alliance (Regional lmprovement Collaborative for the area's eight local authorities) in collaboration with Education Scotland, Promoting Equity Week will run from Monday 28 September.

OCHMADDY, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (August, 31st) sold 2,394 store lambs.   Lambs (2,394) averaged £63.60 (up £16.91 on the year) and sold to £95 gross for a Suffolk cross lamb from Clachan Farm, Lochmaddy.

Changes To The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme - From Today

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme will close on 31 October 2020.   From 1 July, employers can bring furloughed employees back to work for any amount of time and any shift pattern, while still being able to claim CJRS grant for the hours not worked.

Restrictions introduced across West of Scotland

Indoor gatherings limited in Glasgow, East Renfrewshire and West Dunbartonshire.   Following an increase in the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Glasgow, East Renfrewshire and West Dunbartonshire, additional restrictions will be introduced for people living in these areas for an initial two week period.
