DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd, (October, 25th) sold 663 rams at its annual show and sale of North County Hill Cheviots, generously sponsored by Robertson Crop Services & D. R. Alexander Trailers.
The judge Mr P. Tweedie, Buchtrigg, Hownam, Jedburgh, awarded the overall champion to a three shear from Messrs Badanloch Estate, Kinbrace, realising £1,700. The reserve champion award went to a two shear from Mr M. Cook, Dorrery, Thurso, realising a centre record of £10,500. Inkstack Farm, Barrock won the Brogan Fuels sponsored prize for highest Highland flock average (minimum 5 rams), selling 9 rams to average £1,800.00.
Shearlings (100) sold to £3,200 gross from 185 Migdale, Bonar Bridge.
Two shears (449) sold to £10,500 gross from Dorrery.
Three shears (79) sold to £4,500 gross from Inkstack Farm, Barrock.
Four shears (22) sold to £1,000 gross from Mill House, Thurso.
Five shears (8) sold to £2,200 gross from Badanloch.
Aged (5) sold to £3,400 gross from Hethpool, Wooler.
"Large numbers forward saw buyers meticulous in their buying with well bred character sheep keenly bid for, with plainer & smaller types meeting a more hesitant demand."
