UK Announces First Charter Flights From India To Bring British Nationals Home

The UK has announced the first seven charter flights that will bring home British nationals in India.   The charter flights will depart for London from the following cities: Goa 8 10 and 12 April Mumbai: 9 and 11 April New Delhi: 9 and 11 April British travellers should visit the booking portal for respective cities to reserve seats.

Change to waste and recycling services aims to protect staff

From Monday, a number of changes have been made in line with national guidance, to how we collect waste in order to protect staff, during the Coronavirus emergency.   To protect our staff, and prevent the spread of Coronavirus on our waste collection routes we have improved social distancing measures in line with guidance and in discussion with union reps.

Farmers Urged To Wade Into Bird Conservation

Farmers and land managers have an important role to play in reversing the declining numbers of wading birds in Scotland, according to a new report.   The Working for Waders annual report has highlighted a steep decline in the number of wading birds, including lapwings, oystercatchers and curlews, over the past 25 years.

Coronavirus: Country Comparisons Are Pointless Unless We Account For These Biases In Testing

Suppose we wanted to estimate how many car owners there are in the UK and how many of those own a Ford Fiesta, but we only have data on those people who visited Ford car showrooms in the last year.  If 10% of the showroom visitors owned a Fiesta, then, because of the bias in the sample, this would certainly overestimate the proportion of Ford Fiesta owners in the country.

Emerging evidence from China shows smokers with COVID-19 are 14 times more likely to develop severe respiratory disease.   If you smoke, you are not only putting yourself at greater risk of developing severe disease from the COVID-19 virus, but those around you exposed to second hand smoke, including children, are also put at increased risk.

Covid-19 - SSPR Update For Businesses With Fewer Than 250 Employees
