The Budget offers no plan to fix the housing crisis - John Healey John Healey MP, Labour's Shadow Housing Secretary, responding to the Chancellor's announcements on housing in the Budget, said: "This is a ‘nothing has changed' Budget from a Government with no idea of the reality of people's lives and no plan to improve them. This was billed as the ‘housing budget', but the announcements fall far short of a proper plan to help fix the housing crisis.

The UK Government's budget does not represent a good deal for Scotland, as a consequence of a real terms cut to Scotland's revenue block grant of over £200m next year. Commenting on today's UK Government budget Finance Secretary Derek Mackay said that Scotland is being "short changed".
Wick Lifeboat called out by Shetland Coastguard at 09:35 this morning to go to the aid of a cargo vessel 'Jomi', half a mile offshore in Sinclair's Bay, Caithness. They had reported dragging its anchor in the Easterly swell and unable to get its engine started.

Bullocks (417) averaged 228.1p and sold to 303.5p per kilo for a 290kg British Blue cross from Shewglie Farm, Glenurquhart, and £1,200 gross for a 605kg Limousin cross from 4 Glaick, Ardross.

Businesses and organisations are being encouraged to apply for funding through the Highland & Moray Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG) as part of the European Maritime & Fisheries Fund. Funding can be used to support a wide range of projects that will boost the local economy and create jobs within the fishing, aquaculture and maritime industries including tourism and seafood sectors.

The Chancellor today announced a tax measure that will unlock further investment in the UK North Sea by enabling more assets to change hands and allow new owners to provide fresh investment in many mature oil and gas fields. Oil & Gas UK has been working constructively with HM Treasury for a number of years on measures to help further unlock asset trading in the UK North Sea and generate additional tax revenues.

Scottish firefighters will descend on Holyrood this coming Thursday (23 November 2017) to protest against leaked plans to shut fire stations and cut jobs in the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service as a result of budget cuts. Earlier this month, it was revealed that the Scottish government are considering the move despite having made commitments to safeguard frontline resources in 2013 when eight fire services were merged into one.
The Highland Council has responded to the news that the Board of The Highland Military Tattoo have taken the decision not hold another Tattoo. Provost of Inverness and Area Cllr Helen Carmichael said: "While we respect the decision of the Board of Directors of the Highland Military Tattoo, this is very sad news for the Highlands.

A new reminder from the Scottish Information Commissioner that public bodies must respond within legal time limits was welcomed today by UNISON. The trade union pledged to robustly chase up councils, health boards and other public bodies that fail to respond on time, following the Commissioner's criticism of Glasgow City Council.
The Highland Council's chargeable garden waste brown bin collection service started on 3rd July 2017 and to date approximately 32,000 garden waste brown bin permits have been purchased. This accounts for 48% of households that previously received the Garden Waste Collection Service.
Pilot gives access to more than 120 libraries - and 1.6 million books. A pilot for a single card that can be used in any library has been launched in the north east.
The Highland Council received two awards at last week's Scottish Awards for Quality in Planning. One Award was in the "Process" Category for the Highland eDevelopment project and the second was in the "Place" category for the Nucleus Building in Wick.

Seacat recruiting for postions Master, Mate and Deckhand positions for the BOWL project at Wick. Class-leading Offshore Energy Support Vessel (OESV) operator Seacat Services has secured a contract with Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Limited (BOWL) to support the construction of Scotland's second major offshore wind farm.

Ambulance provision in Caithness has been boosted with the announcement that funding for the service has been increased to almost half a million pounds. Investment has been increased to £491,000 from the originally planned £400,000 with the total being split 50/50 between NHS Highland and the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS).

OVER TWO THIRDS (67%) OF SCOTS WOULD SWITCH TO A GREEN ENERGY PROVIDER IF GIVEN THE CHANCE. THE MAJORITY (72%) OF SCOTS WOULD BE HAPPY TO PAY MORE FOR ENERGY IF THEIR TARRIFF WAS RENEWABLY SOURCED.
