Visit MSP Rhoda Grant's surgery for money advice and hwo to join a credit union at Pulteneytown People's Project, Huddart Street, Wick on Friday 6th December between 1.00 � 2.00p.m. Following the launch of the Debtbusters campaign in at the Citizens Advice Bureau in Wick last month, Highlands and Islands (Scottish Labour) MSP Rhoda Grant issued a Debtbusters survey to homes across Wick in order to get a better picture of the current financial situation for those living in the county.

Police are reporting the success last Friday of a road safety initiative across the Highlands and Islands as part of the continuing Operation Route. On Friday 29 November 2013, officers were deployed throughout the Division to focus on vehicle checks with the aim of improving road safety and deterring travelling criminals.

The by-election for a councillor to represent the Landward Caithness Ward (No 4) on The Highland Council has been won by Matthew Reiss, who will join the Independent Group on the Council Mr Reiss was one of five candidates who contested the vacancy, created by the resignation of Alex MacLeod. He joins Councillors David Bremner (Independent), Willie Mackay (Independent) and Gillian Coghill (Independent) in representing the Landward Caithness Ward.
Mr Neil Gillies, The Highland Council�s Director of Transport Environmental and Community Services, has announced his decision to retire from the Council, with effect from the end of January, next year. Mr Gillies joined the former Highland Regional Council in 1978 and worked on a wide range of civil engineering projects including roads, bridges, harbours and coast protection works, and road maintenance.
The Highland Council is to write to the UK Government, the Scottish Government and the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities to highlight its total opposition to the high-cost short-term credit offered by pay day lending companies and the misery that spiralling debt brings to the poorest in society. A priority, they say, is to cap the level of interest on the repayment of loans, which can be as high as 4,000 per cent, at no more than 60 per cent.

Weaned bullocks (247) averaged 250.9p and sold to 377.8p per kilo for a 270 kg British Blue cross from Dunmaglass Estate, Dores, and �1,130 gross for a 380kg Limousin cross from Wester Tomloan, Ardclach.
DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (November, 28th) sold 2,338 store sheep. Lambs (1,434) averaged �49.40 and sold to �79 gross for a Beltex cross from Aberchalder Estate, Gorthleck.

Police Scotland has yesterday and today carried out an operation in the Shetland Islands aimed at disrupting the availability of drugs in the community. Officers from N Division and the Organised Crime and Counter Terrorism Unit (North) conducted the activity at six addresses in the Lerwick area.

Council Leaders in the Highlands and Islands and Perth and Kinross are backing a campaign by hauliers to increase the speed limit for heavy goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes on single carriageway stretches of the A9 Inverness � Perth road. On behalf of all the Leaders of the Highlands and Islands authorities, The Highland Council Leader Councillor Drew Hendry has written to Keith Brown, MSP, Scottish Minister for Transport, seeking the increase from 40 mph to 50 mph to avoid build up of traffic and driver frustration.
