Homecoming Helpline For Volcanic Ash Disruption
Scottish Government advice service for travellers and families went live today Tuesday 20th april 2010 The Scottish Government will launch a helpline tomorrow to offer advice to travellers and their families affected by the disruption to air travel caused by the volcanic ash cloud.   The service will be available to travellers stranded overseas, and to concerned relatives calling from this country and will complement the FCO helpline which will remain the main point of contact for travellers needing specific assistance while overseas.

£80 Million Fort William Waterfront Development Stopped
The Highland Council has been advised by Fort William Waterfront Ltd that they have withdrawn from their plans to develop the Fort William Waterfront development.  The company say their decision is linked to the current global economic situation which dictates that this scheme is not capable of being funded in today's market.

New agreement for the Royal National Mòd in the Highlands
Members of the Highland Council's Gaelic Committee have approved a draft Service Delivery Contract between An Comunn Gàidhealach and The Highland Council in relation to the delivery of Royal National Mòds in the Highlands.   The agreement is to set out the partnership between the Council and An Comunn in the provision of services by An Comunn associated with the Royal National Mòd within The Highland Council area.

Child maintenance changes expected to lift children out of poverty
By Emily Watson Children & Young People Now Child maintenance payments will no longer be curtailed for parents receiving income support, under changes to the system.   Until now, parents on income support and jobseeker's allowance were only allowed to keep a maximum of £20 per week in child maintenance payments, regardless of what the other non-resident parent was contributing.

Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland restarts grant programme this month
By Paul Jump, Third Sector Online Foundation's move follows £2m sale of shares in Lloyds Banking Group The Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland has announced that it will restart its grants programme later this month after selling £2m of shares in Lloyds Banking Group.   The foundation stopped giving new grants last October amid a row with Lloyds Banking Group over the company's desire to reduce the percentage of its profits that it was obliged to donate to its four UK foundations.

Alistair Dodds, Chief Executive of The Highland Council, is the Returning Officer for the following three parliamentary constituencies:- * Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross (8,752 sq km) - 47,263 electors; * Ross, Skye and Lochaber (12,779 sq km.) - 51,934 electors; * Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey (4,953 sq km.) - 72,390 electors.   He will be assisted in running the election by Senior Depute Returning Officer, Michelle Morris, as well as Depute Returning Officers, Ian Hargrave, Bob Cameron, William Gilfillan and John Bruce.

International Focus for Highlands and Islands Businesses
Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) is boosting the opportunities for its businesses to seek out new international markets.   The development agency is increasing the numbers of Highlands and Islands dedicated staff working within Scottish Development International (SDI), which offers access to business support internationally, including operations in 27 countries.  
DSRL continues to reduce in size
DSRL is updating staff, trade unions and key stakeholders about the latest forecasts for continued planned reductions in its workforce as more of the site is decommissioned.   Staffing levels at the site licence company have dropped from a peak of just under 1300 in 2005 to approximately 970 today as the hazard has reduced.

DINGWALL, Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd, (April 7th) sold 15 Young Farmers over-wintered cattle at their annual show and sale, sponsored by Messrs Home Farms, Inverness.  The judge, Jocky McCallum, Mountrich Farm, Dingwall, choose as his champion the first prize heifer, an 11 month old 470kg Charolais cross, brought out by Sarah Wilson, Wester Cairnglass, Nairn.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (April, 7th) sold 284 Continental store cattle in a special show and sale.  Bullocks (157) averaged 184.7p and sold to 326.4p and £1,420 gross for a 435kg Limousin cross from Clury Farm, Dulnain Bridge.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (April, 7th) sold 529 Aberdeen Angus store cattle in a special show and sale.  Bullocks (321) averaged 181.4p and sold to 258.1p and £1,200 gross for the champion, a 465kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Gaskbeg, Laggan, Newtonmore.
