Further Cancellations on Northern Isles Ferry Services
20th December 2012
Serco NorthLink has issued another warning to customers as severe weather continues to disrupt ferry services linking Aberdeen with Orkney and Shetland.
The operator is in the process of contacting customers booked on services between today and Christmas to advise them most sailings are likely to be cancelled.
Freight services are also being disrupted.
The Pentland Firth crossing continues to run as scheduled. Serco NorthLink advise customers to travel via this route where possible
Services today (20 December) have been cancelled. There remains a chance that north and southbound services will operate tomorrow. Serco NorthLink will make a further announcement at 1000hrs tomorrow (21 December) morning.
If current weather forecasts prove accurate it is unlikely there will be any services between Aberdeen and Shetland from Saturday (22 December) until Boxing Day (26 December).
Stuart Garrett, Managing Director, said: “We continue to monitor weather forecasts while working hard to contact all those booked on ferries between Aberdeen and the Northern Isles. Prolonged storms of this severity are unusual and we understand this is extremely disappointing news for people. However our priority is the safety of our passengers and crew and we will not sail unless it is safe to do so.
