Scottish Defence Commitments Sought
The UK Government must do more to support Scotland's defence industry and military commitments says Cabinet Secretary for Justice and Veterans Keith Brown.   Mr Brown addressed the Scottish Affairs Committee inquiry on defence matters in Scotland today (Monday) where he made a key pledge for greater engagement between Westminster and Holyrood.

GMB calls on Glasgow and Dundee Councils to "break the bias" over discriminatory pay
On International Women's Day (Tuesday 8 March 2022) equal pay claimants in two of Scotland's biggest local authorities are calling on their employers to help "break the bias" of gender inequality by ending discrimination in their pay and grading schemes.   Thousands of GMB Scotland members across Glasgow City Council and Dundee City Council, including its arms-length organisations Tayside Contracts and Leisure & Culture Dundee, have live equal pay claims against their employers.

EMPLOYERS need to do more to support female workers through the menopause, says a leading employment solicitor.   Joanne Stronach, who is Head of Employment Law and HR at Cartmell Shepherd Solicitors, said businesses face losing valued members of the workforce unless they put in place measures to support women experiencing menopausal symptoms.

The conflict in Ukraine is forecast to further push up energy prices and wider inflation (to over 8 per cent this Spring), causing typical household incomes across Britain to fall by 4 per cent in the coming financial year (2022-23), the sharpest fall since the mid-1970s, according to the Resolution Foundation's annual Living Standards Outlook for 2022.   The report examines the outlook for living standards as the UK steps out of a Covid-crisis, and straight into a cost of living crisis.

Spring Rollout Of Boosters Begins - At-risk groups to be offered further dose
Spring booster jabs will be offered to those aged 75 and over and people at highest risk of severe COVID-19 disease from tomorrow (Monday).   To protect these groups a spring booster dose will be offered at least 24 weeks after the last vaccine dose to: adults aged 75 years and over residents in care homes for older adults individuals aged 12 years and over who are immunosuppressed Following recent advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), letters are also now being sent out to parents and guardians inviting children aged five to 11 for their first vaccination appointments.

Work and Pensions Secretary Therèse Coffey deposits treaty tackling workplace violence, completing the ratification process for the UK.   The UK Government has strengthened its efforts to end violence and harassment in the workplace, becoming the 11th country to ratify the International Labour Organization's Violence and Harassment Convention.
