The North Highland Initiative announces new Chairman
21st May 2009
David Whiteford has been appointed as the new Chairman of The Prince's North Highland Initiative. Mr Whiteford will take up the position on 1st June 2009.
Mr Whiteford brings a wealth of agricultural and food industry experience with him to the position, having previously chaired Scottish Food Quality Certification and Scottish Pig Industry Initiative amongst others. Mr Whiteford is currently employed as a partner in two family farming operations.
Mr Whiteford replaces Lord Maclennan, who served as Chairman since the NHI was launched in 2005. Speaking of the new appointment Mr Whiteford said: "Lord Maclennan has achieved great results in establishing the work of the North Highland Initiative, for which we are all very grateful. I am delighted to be stepping into the role and look forward to the tasks ahead and working with those involved in all three strands of the Initiative."
Danny Miller, Chairman of Mey Selections, said:"It has been a pleasure to work with Lord Maclennan over the past five years and his tireless enthusiasm will be a hard act to follow. In that time Mey Selections, created as a result of the North Highland Initiative, has secured many awards and continues to contribute to the sustainability of the North Highlands. David Whiteford brings yet another dimension and I certainly look forward to working with him in my continuing role as Chairman of Mey Selections."
The North Highland Initiative was launched by HRH The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay in 2005 to help enhance and develop the economic, environmental and cultural elements of the North Highlands.
