Energy Set to Spark Further Growth for Moray Businesses

Trade body Energy North is calling on ambitious Moray businesses looking to explore ways to service the energy supply chain to attend a free energy trade information day in Elgin next week (Thursday 18 April).
The event has been organised by Energy North and Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) to raise awareness and encourage Moray businesses to promote their existing capabilities, and by developing their services to capitalise on new supply chain opportunities.
During the one-day programme, businesses will receive expert advice about how to prepare for the industry, as well as learn about the valuable services they could offer using their particular skill sets and expertise. Several organisations will deliver presentations and workshops, including the British Standards Institute and FPAL – the bodies behind the internationally recognised ISO 9001 quality standard and FPAL supply chain assessment system.
In addition, SSE will discuss its new ‘Open for Business’ portal, which enables local companies to learn about upcoming contract opportunities, and AMEC’s Sidney Johnstone will provide an industry perspective on working with major energy companies.
David Reid, HIE’s Head of Business Growth in Moray, said: “We aim to provide information on the opportunities for business development and, in some instances, diversification into the energy sector.
“Moray already has a sophisticated manufacturing and production base which services oil and gas, renewable energy and distillation amongst other key industries. These skills and disciplines are indeed transferable and could put Moray in a favourable position to take advantage of these developments.
We are offering businesses of all sizes the chance to look at how they can diversify to supply this market.”

The event takes place between 10am and 7pm on Thursday 18 April at the Laichmoray Hotel, Elgin. Delegates can come for all or part of the day and are encouraged to take advantage of the exhibition, workshops and networking opportunities in particular.
