Thurso Battery Man Heads For Massachusetts Institute of Technology

23rd January 2016

A Caithness entrepreneur is set to give his business a global boost after attending one of the worlds most renowned business executive development courses.

Derek Campbell of Thurso battery and charger manufacturer Denchi Power, will be among 120 entrepreneurs from across the globe taking part in the Entrepreneurship Development Programme at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston at the end of January.

Along with four other entrepreneurs from the Highlands and Islands, Derek secured sponsorship from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) to attend this year's programme to gain inspiration and insight, and learn the tools needed to grow his business in national and international markets.

Commenting on the trip, he said: I am really excited by this fantastic opportunity to step back from the daily business and work with MIT to develop our strategic thinking about how we can take Denchi to the next level.

Keith Muir, HIEs head of business growth in Caithness and Sutherland, said: Our relationship with MIT has gone from strength to strength over the past ten years and has benefitted many businesses across the Highlands and Islands. I am delighted that Derek has been successful in his application to attend the EDP course this year. In taking part he will gain the inspiration, confidence and tools to take strategic decisions about the future of Denchi Power. This could include refining the company's vision, strategies and structures in order to capitalise on market opportunities and boost profitability and success.
