Food and drink businesses in the Highlands and Islands interested in exporting to China have the opportunity to access specialist information and advice at a free event in Inverness this month.
Organised by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), in partnership with the China-Britain Council (CBBC) and the EU SME Centre, the event takes place on Tuesday 24 May at the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness from 9:30am-4:15pm.
The China food and drink roadshow will highlight opportunities for businesses in this fast growing market. It will also provide information on conducting market research, preparing to export, meeting China's requirements, and distribution networks.
Jim Anderson, export advisor for food and drink at HIE will outline the support available from HIE to new and existing exporters.
Jim said: "China offers huge opportunities for companies in sectors such as food and drink in our region. It's a fast growing and exciting market but it does come with its own specific challenges so we hope this event will help companies know what to expect and how to approach it.
"As our economic relations with China take on increasing importance, so too does CBBC's role in helping our region’s companies in China. Anyone interested in exploring opportunities for their business in China should come along to hear what support is available."
Almost the same size as Europe, with twice the population, China is a varied region made up of over 30 different provinces and municipalities. Its economy grew 7.3 percent in 2014 opening up huge potential for Scottish companies.
Rafael Jiminez, business development adviser for CBBC will provide information on selling food and drink online to China, along with information on consumer trends and challenges.
Delegates will hear first-hand experience from Lewis Maclean of Maclean’s Highland Bakery who will share first-hand knowledge of doing business in the region and offer practical advice to companies considering exporting to China.
