New Life Science Building On Inverness Campus Takes A Step Forward

The development of Inverness Campus moves another step forward with tenders being invited to build a second life science building.
Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) is leading on the development of the campus. The 215-acre campus is a focus for the development of one of the region's key sectors, life sciences.
The £4.5m development, which will be called Solasta House, is the second building targeted at attracting companies in the life science and technology sector, with Aurora House having being completed in 2015.
Inverness based architects Threesixty Architecture was recruited by HIE earlier this year to design Solasta House which will include a mix of offices and laboratories.
Enterprise Area status for Life Sciences at Inverness Campus brings a range of incentives, including rates relief, and Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) offers a wide range of business support to help ambitious companies grow.
Five companies - Aqua Pharma, 4C Engineering, Interactive Health, Corporate Health and Aseptium - already have space in Aurora House, and it is expected to be full by early next year.
Ruaraidh MacNeil, Inverness Campus project director, said: "With the current level of interest from other businesses that see the benefits of what Inverness Campus has to offer, we anticipate continuing growth of the life science and technology sectors in the coming months and years. Attracting these companies to the campus demonstrates the appeal of the collaborative opportunity on offer for them."
The deadline for the contract, which was published this week, is 6 November 2017.
At least 40% of funding will come from ERDF, remainder from HIE.

Funding approved for Wick Harbour port consultant

£3.4m HIE investment in Arnish Road, Stornoway
The project, led by the Stornoway Port Authority, will involve upgrading the full length of the 3.3km Arnish Moor Road. Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has approved a £3.4m contribution to a £7.2m public funding package for a major project to transform road access to strategic industrial and port sites on the Isle of Lewis.

As HIE reaches 60, new chair says best is yet to come
The newly appointed chair of Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) says the region is on the threshold of a new era of economic growth. Angus Campbell's term as chair began officially on 1 November - 60 years to the day since HIE's forerunner, the Highlands and Islands Development Board (HIDB) opened for business with just six employees.
