More than one million customers take advantage of extra time to file tax returns

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has revealed that more than one million customers filed their late tax returns in February - taking advantage of the extra time to complete their Self Assessment without facing a penalty.   About 12.2 million customers were expected to file a return for the 2020/21 tax year and more than 11.3 million customers submitted theirs by 28 February.

The UK government has pledged another £80 million in aid after Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine.   new funding brings total UK support during current Ukraine crisis to £220 million, which includes £120 million of humanitarian aid.

British nationals and people settled in the UK will be able to bring extended family members to the UK and sponsored humanitarian visa route will be established.   Thousands more Ukrainians will be welcomed to the UK as the Government continues its support for Ukraine in their fight against the Russian invasion.

First Minister: Waive Visas For Ukrainians - Scotland ready to welcome refugees

The UK Government has been urged to waive all visa requirements for any Ukrainian nationals seeking refuge in the UK.   In a letter to the Prime Minister, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said "It is vital that rapid, safe and legal routes be established immediately, cooperating with our international partners wherever possible.

The Foreign Secretary launched a first tranche of sanctions against Belarusian individuals and organisations in response to Belarus' role in Russia's invasion of Ukraine.   first tranche of sanctions implemented against Belarus for its role supporting Russia's military invasion Belarusian Chief of the General Staff and 3 other deputy defence ministers sanctioned two military enterprises sanctioned Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has today (Tuesday 1 March) launched a first tranche of sanctions against Belarusian individuals and organisations in response to the role the country is playing in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, including facilitating the invasion from within its borders.

Rishi Sunak Calls On G7 Finance Ministers And Central Bank Governors To Go Faster And Further In Support Of Ukraine

During the first meeting of G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors under the German Presidency, Rishi Sunak called on the group to go "faster and further" in support of Ukraine.   Speaking with Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko, Rishi Sunak described the fortitude shown by the Ukrainian government and the Ukrainian people as "truly inspiring".

Medical Supplies For Ukraine - From Scotland

£2.9 million of urgently needed items Scotland is sending critical medical supplies and equipment to help Ukraine following the illegal invasion by Russia.   Over 500,000 emergency items valued at about £2.9 million, including hypodermic needles and oxygen masks are being donated by NHS Scotland.
