New Funding Adds To Range Of Salmon Conservation Measures

Funding of more than £650,000 will extend the salmon counter network as part of a package of measures to support salmon conservation.   The expanded network will provide valuable information to monitor salmon populations and inform their population status.

Vaccinations Programme Makes Excellent Progress In Scotland

The Covid-19 vaccination programme has made excellent progress in vaccinating a large majority of the adult population in Scotland.   By 17 September, more than 90 per cent of people aged 18 or over had received at least one Covid-19 vaccine.

Time Is Running Out For Tax Credits And Child Benefit Customers With Post Office Card Accounts

HMRC urges tax credits and Child Benefits customers with a Post Office card account to update HMRC with their new bank account details by 30 November 2021.   From 1 December 2021, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) will stop making payments of Child Benefit, Guardian's Allowance and tax credits into Post Office card accounts.

£500 Million Plan For Jobs Expansion

Over £500 million to support hundreds of thousands of people into jobs announced today (Monday 4 October 2021).   Workers leaving the furlough scheme and unemployed people over the age of 50 will be helped back into work Those on the lowest wages will also be helped to progress in their careers and existing schemes targeting young people will be extended into next year Workers leaving the furlough scheme and unemployed people over the age of 50 will be helped back into work as part of more than £500m expansion of the government's Plan for Jobs.

Scotland Putting Rail Decarbonisation At Heart Of Net Zero Plans.

Decarbonising transport, including rail services, offers a significant opportunity to contribute to reducing the threat of climate change, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said.   Speaking at a formal launch of the £120m Glasgow Queen Street Station today, the First Minister applauded the substantial investment of over £9bn in rail infrastructure since 2007 that sees over 75% of all rail passenger journeys in Scotland made by electric services.

£30 Million Package To Refurbish 4,500 Public Tennis Courts In Deprived Parts Of Uk Announced

Package to capitalise on huge boost for British tennis, following unprecedented success for Emma Raducanu, Joe Salisbury, Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett at this year's US Open Tennis Championships.   £22 million committed by the Government, with additional £8.4 million provided by the Lawn Tennis Association.

The latest reconviction statistics for the 2018-19 offender cohort have been published today by Scotland's Chief Statistician.  The figures show that reconvictions have increased in the past year, going against the general downwards trend over the past decade.

Raising The Roof At Dounreay's Newest Radioactive Waste Store

The first roof beams have been lifted into place at Dounreay's newest shielded radioactive waste store.   Seventy six beams, weighing a total of 1,400 tonnes, the equivalent of 116 double decker buses, are needed to complete the mammoth roof structure which will have a total weight of 3,300 tonnes.

Scottish Business Confidence Rises And Hiring Intentions Increase Ahead Of Supply Disruption

Business confidence in Scotland rose five points during September to 39%, the second consecutive month of growth, according to the latest Business Barometer from Bank of Scotland Commercial Banking.   Scottish firms reported higher confidence in their own business prospects month-on-month, up 14 points at 39%.
