Highland Council Trading Standards Warns of Council Tax Scam

Highland Council Trading Standards is warning Highland residents that telephone calls claiming their property has been re-banded for Council Tax and they are entitled to a substantial refund, is a scam.   The calls are known to have targeted the Caithness area but are likely to affect various parts of the community.

Immunity passport idea ‘premature' says First Minister

Introducing so-called vaccination passports has been downplayed by the Scottish Government but the idea has not been ruled out The First Minister has said it is too early to be discussing the roll out of a coronavirus vaccine passport system.   Pressed for her view in Parliament today, Nicola Sturgeon said there was" much still to be learned” about how the virus transmits after someone has been vaccinated.

Almost 20,000 Jobs Protected By Film & TV Production Restart Scheme

Almost 20,000 jobs in film and television have already been protected by a government-backed scheme to get screen productions back up and running again, the Chancellor confirmed today, 2 February 2021.   more than 160 productions are benefiting from government-backed scheme to protect against Covid-related losses.

£11.6 Billion For Local Councils

Details of how £11.6 billion of funding from the Scottish Government will be distributed to individual local authorities in 2021-22 have been published.   The settlement provides councils with an increase in day to day revenue spending of £335.6 million, including £90 million to compensate local authorities which choose to freeze council tax and a further £259 million will be added in one-off funding to support ongoing COVID-19 pressures.

Scotland's Chief Statistician today published Scotland's Carbon Footprint: 1998-2017.  This publication provides estimates of Scotland's greenhouse gas emissions on a consumption basis; that is emissions that are associated with the spending of Scottish residents on goods and services, wherever in the world these emissions arise, together with emissions directly generated by Scottish households.

Rebuilding The Economy - Investing In Jobs And Skills

Supporting people into employment and equipping them with skills they need will be at the heart of the economic recovery, backed with £1.1 billion of investment under the proposed Scottish Budget 2021-22.   Additional investment of £125 million will go towards the Young Person's Guarantee, the National Transition Training Fund and other initiatives ensuring the future workforce has the skills needed for a green recovery and supporting those at risk of long term unemployment.
