Covid Numbers Rising Again

The numbers for Covid cases announced on 3rd October 2020 for Scotland show that the spread of the disease goes on.   764 new cases of COVID-19 reported; this is 12.1% of newly tested individuals.

HMRC Self Assessment customers to benefit from enhanced payment plans

Self Assessment customers can apply online for additional support to help spread the cost of their tax bill into monthly payments from today (1 October), without the need to call HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).   The online payment plan service can already be used to set up instalment arrangements for paying tax liabilities up to £10,000.

Highland Council by-election postponed

The by-election for The Highland Council's Ward 12 - Aird and Loch Ness has been postponed for public safety due to the coronavirus pandemic.   Returning Officer, Donna Manson is implementing clause 70 of the Coronavirus Act 2020 that allows Returning Officers to postpone Local Authority Elections in Scotland and will set a new by-election date for 2021 once all available dates have been considered.

Pm Confirms £3.7 Billion For 40 Hospitals In Biggest Hospital Building Programme In England In A Generation

The Prime Minister confirms that 40 hospitals will be built in England by 2030 as part of a package worth £3.7 billion.   Funding confirmed for 40 hospitals, with a further 8 schemes invited to bid for future funding to deliver 48 hospitals by 2030.

Royal Navy Seize £160 Million Worth Of Drugs In The Caribbean

A Royal Navy task group has prevented drugs worth more than £160 million from potentially reaching the UK on two daring operations in the Caribbean.   RFA Argus, alongside her Wildcat and Merlin helicopters, Royal Marines and US Coast Guard teams, worked with Dutch Navy ship HNLMS Groningen to seize 1.7 tonnes of cocaine and 28kg of amphetamines.

Prime Minister Launches Review To Boost Connections Across The UK

The Prime Minister launches independent review into transport connections across Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England, led by Sir Peter Hendy CBE.   Faster road and rail links to Scotland, upgrades to Welsh railways and new connections between Great Britain and Northern Ireland are among the range of potential projects to be considered in first of a kind study into improving transport infrastructure across the United Kingdom, launched by the Prime Minister today.

Household Waste Recycling Centre Opening Hours Extended In Highland

The Highland Council is pleased to announce that from Saturday 3 October the majority of Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) across the region will see their opening hours extended to include a Saturday or Sunday for members of the public to dispose of their household waste.   The HWRC in Kingussie and Grantown, which have been temporarily closed until now, will also be re-opened on Saturdays only from 3 October 2020.

Supporting Education Staff - Covid-19 Antibody Survey

A nationwide voluntary survey of education staff in schools or Early Learning & Childcare settings will help identify whether those tested are likely to have had coronavirus (COVID-19).   The COVID-19 Antibody Survey in education Staff (CASS) will help identify the proportion of people working in an education setting who have had COVID-19 by testing for antibodies in their blood.

Quarantine Rules Imposed On Travellers From Further Destinations

Azores and Madeira exempt from quarantine requirements.   Travellers arriving in Scotland from Poland and the Caribbean islands of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba must quarantine on arrival.
