The Bank of England's vast sale of government bonds is causing a shortage of cash in corners of the money markets and may need to end, investors have warned.   Over the past two years, the BoE has shrunk its balance sheet from nearly £1tn to about £760bn largely by reducing its holdings of government debt it bought under numerous rounds of quantitative easing stimulus.

Energy Performance Scams By Trading Standards

There has been a recent increase in scam letters and leaflets which say that a property's 'energy performance rating' is highly inefficient and offer a free energy assessment.   They say that energy efficiency measures such as insulation, solar panels, heat pumps and heating upgrades are available for free to local residents through government grants if they suffer from a range of medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, mobility issues, cancer, cardiac conditions or even high cholesterol.

Ticket Fraud Soars Warns Trading Standards

hose hoping to attend popular events this summer, such as the Euros, the Olympics, music festivals and concerts including Taylor Swift's Eras tour, are being warned to be wary of ticket fraud.   According to recent figures from UK Finance, there was a 28% increase in cases of purchase fraud in the UK last year, where consumers paid for goods or services online - such as event tickets - which were never received.

School Numbers Dropping According To Council Forecasts

On Thursday 30 May 2024 the Education committee of Highland Council will be updated on the 15-year School Roll Forecasts (SRFs) that were published in April 2024 and the recent work undertaken to support the roll forecasting and school capacity modelling processes.  There will be a presentation at the Committee meeting that will provide more information, including graphics to illustrate current statistics and future trends.

Record Number Of Start-up Businesses In The Highlands

Grant funding from The Highland Council for business start-ups has helped the area register a record number of new businesses in the last year.   Highland Council's Business Gateway service has supported over 2000 businesses with start-up and growth support in the last year and assisted 358 to successfully start to trade.

Health And Care Experience Survey 2023/24 Results Published

Scotland's Chief Statistician today released the main findings of the 2023/24 Health and Care Experience survey.   Experience of General Practice and Out of Hours healthcare: 69% of people rated their overall experience of their General Practice as good or excellent: this is a slight increase since the last survey in 2021/22 (67%), but it is lower than the survey prior to that in 2019/20 (79%).
