Ministry Of Defence Funds Two New Centres For Doctoral Training

These centres will enable novel research and provide a future pipeline of trained research staff in critical technology areas for defence.   The £16 million investment will fund Centres for Doctoral Training (CDT) led from the universities of Southampton and Edinburgh, forging closer links between defence and academia.

Register Of Persons Holding A Controlled Interest In Land - Legal Duty To Submit Entries Before 1 April 2024

Owners or long-term tenants of land or property may need to submit an entry to a new register designed to provide clarity over who controls land in Scotland.   Launched on 1 April 2022, the Register of Persons Holding a Controlled Interest in Land (RCI) exists to improve transparency about those who ultimately make decisions about the management or use of land, even if they are not necessarily registered as the owner.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (March 12th) sold 11 Prime Cattle.   Prime Heifers (11) averaged 281.94p per kg and sold to 291.0p per kg for a 585kg Limousin cross from Teawig, Beauly and £1,866.75 gross for a 655kg Limousin cross from Burnside Farming, Banff.

EY Regional Economic Forecast 2024: An Uneven Return To Growth

The UK economy ended 2023 on a disappointing note — having confounded expectations and avoiding a recession in the first half of the year, it suffered that fate in the latter half.  Although, it just about managed a tepid 0.1% growth for the year as a whole.

New Laws To Cut Migration And Tackle Care Worker Visa Abuse By Bringing Families

HMS Diamond Heads Back To The Red Sea And Gulf Of Aden To Protect Global Shipping

One of the UK's most advanced warships is heading back to the Red Sea to protect global shipping from Houthi attacks.   HMS Diamond will take over from HMS Richmond, which joined Operation Prosperity Guardian - the international coalition to protect commercial shipping from Houthi attacks - in February.

Mortgage Shelf-life Plummets And Lenders Hike Rate

Moneyfacts UK Mortgage Trends Treasury Report data reveals the average shelf-life of a mortgage product plummeted to 15 days, with lenders increasing fixed rates.   Average mortgage rates on the overall two- and five-year fixed rate deals rose, breaking six months of consecutive cuts.

Crack Down On Long Term Empty Homes - England Catches Up With Scotland

Strengthened 100% council tax premium on long term empty homes comes into force on 1 April, with councils able to spend the money from the next financial year.   Sharpened rules to double council tax on long term empty properties will come into force from 1 April, supporting local people in areas where high numbers of empty homes are preventing them from finding affordable housing.

Women Urged To Apply For Historic Mesh Removal Expenses - Scheme To Close End Of March

Any women who have not claimed back the cost of private mesh removal arranged before 3 June 2022 are being encouraged to do so ahead of the planned closure of the Transvaginal Mesh Removal Reimbursement Scheme.   As announced in the parliament in October 2023, the scheme for women to claim back the cost of private mesh removal surgery will close to new applications at the end of March.

Highland Council Budget - Delivery Plan Sets Out Roadmap To Deliver Savings And Investment

A draft Delivery Plan sets out a roadmap which will ensure the delivery of £54.6m savings and over £100m investment agreed by Council over the next 3 years.   The report is a difficult to follow series looing at areas but does not specify where the cuts to jobs will come over the next three years.
