Free Court Transcripts For Rape Victims

Victims in rape and serious sexual assault cases in Scotland will be the first in the UK to have access to transcripts from their court cases free of charge.   The year-long pilot, commencing this week (01/03), will see complainers whose cases are heard in the High Court be eligible to apply for transcripts of what was said in court.

£24.5m To Secure £350m Inward Investment

Sumitomo Electric UK Power Cables Ltd plans to establish major operations in the region, supplying high voltage cables to the growing offshore wind energy sector.   A funding package has been agreed to secure an estimated £350m in inward investment for Scotland, based in the Highlands.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (February 27th) sold 8 Prime Cattle.   Prime Bullocks (1) averaged 290.0p per kg (+4.9p) and sold to 290.0p per kg and £1,812.50 gross.

Cutting Back On The Investment And Delivery Of Public Services Is Not What The Economy Needs - Or What The Electorate Wants

The Government's current plans for post-election cuts to public spending look undeliverable given rising prices and increasing demand on services.  As discussed below, plans to cap day-to-day spending increases at 1 per cent (after allowing for inflation) imply very big cuts to departments not covered by existing spending commitments.

Monthly GDP Estimates For December For Scotland

Scotland's onshore GDP grew by 0.4% in December, according to statistics announced today by the Chief Statistician.  This follows 0.8% contraction in October and no growth (0.0% change) in November.

Holyrood Committee Calls For Systems-wide Change to Achieve a Circular Economy

A Holyrood Committee has today welcomed the Circular Economy (Scotland) Bill but said that the Bill on its own is not enough to make the systems-wide changes needed to create a truly circular economy.   The Net Zero, Energy & Transport Committee says the Scottish Government must look at additional opportunities to act.

Compared To Any Other Sector, Fewer Transport & Storage Firms Saw An Increase In January Turnover

A new survey reveals only 6.7% of transport & storage sector businesses enjoyed an increase in turnover in January, the lowest result of all business sectors.  The survey also reveals that transport companies are among the most pessimistic about growth in March, says the home delivery expert ParcelHero.

Rightcharge Flips The Switch On Its Home Charging Payments Solution, Sparking Savings And Simplicity For Fleets

Leading electric vehicle charging software company, Rightcharge, has launched its latest technology that allows fleets to cover the costs of an employee's home charging by making payments directly to the employee's energy account, regardless of their supplier.   The service is the first part of the Rightcharge Electric Fuel Card, which is being launched in stages this year and will soon offer a public charge card to access over 30 networks plus workplace charging integrations.

Families of more than 327,000 young people helped by Scottish Child Payment

Scottish Child Payment was helping the families of more than 327,000 children at the end of December last year, official statistics have shown.   The £25-a-week payment helps families as part of a wider package of Scottish Government actions to tackle child poverty and support people during the cost of living crisis.

20,000 Can Get Best Start Foods For The First Time

Changes to a key Scottish Government benefit will see an estimated 20,000 people able to access money to help with the cost of food shopping for the first time.   Rule changes around eligibility for Best Start Foods come into force on Monday Feb 26 extending eligibility by making it easier to qualify.
