Highland Skills Challenge Fund - Still Time To Apply

Following a successful on-line briefing session, The Highland Council is reminding businesses that there is still time to apply for funding to develop their green skills.   At the start of September The Highland Council, with support from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, launched the Highland Skills Challenge Fund to support businesses with the costs of green skills training for their workforce.

The deal is set to boost pandemic preparedness against influenza.   The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has agreed a deal for millions of life-saving vaccines to be produced in the UK if a future influenza pandemic is ever declared.

More Than 38,000 Automatic Payments Help Families With The Costs Of Early Learning And Starting School

More than 38,000 payments have been paid to families to help with the costs of early learning and starting school.   Families who qualify for Scottish Child Payment are now automatically awarded Best Start Grant Early Learning Payment and School Age Payment when their child becomes eligible, without them having to apply separately.

The UK and the US state of Washington signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost trade and investment on 25th September 2023.   Washington State, home to major businesses like Boeing and Amazon, becomes latest US state to agree trade Memorandum of Understanding with the UK.

Deaths From Dementias Increase In Scotland

6,277 deaths caused by Alzheimer's disease and other dementias were registered in 2022, this is an increase of 231 from 2021, according to figures published today by National Records of Scotland.   Over 80% of deaths caused by Alzheimer's disease and other dementias occurred amongst people aged over 80.

Offshore Wind: A Perfect Storm Of Inflation And Policy Uncertainty Risks Derailing The Uk's Main Hope For A Low-carbon Future

Caithness Groups Get Lottery Awards

A number of groups in Caithness were on a long list of Scottish awards from the lottery.   Caithness KLICS (SCIO) Medium Grants Scotland: Improving Lives £76,763 Highland The group will use the funding to offer a range of activities for young carers, including weekly group sessions and after school sessions to reduce stress and provide respite bringing some normality into their lives.

British Army Trains Ukrainian Soldiers In Mine Disposal Skills

The Royal Engineers are delivering world-leading training to Ukraine's combat engineers in Poland, with 1,500 mine detectors having been provided to Ukraine by the UK.   Royal Engineers sappers have delivered crucial explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) training to Ukrainian soldiers to disable mines, munitions and other explosive devices that are being used in Ukraine and are currently one of the biggest threats to the safety of civilians in the country.
