Uk Government Backs £26.3 Million Equivalent Loan For Reconstruction Of Kyiv Bridges

A £26.3 million equivalent loan backed by UK Export Finance has allowed the Ukrainian government to start rebuilding bridges near Kyiv.   A £26.3 million equivalent loan backed by the UK Government has allowed the Ukrainian government to start rebuilding six bridges and reopen vital supply routes near Kyiv.

Sticky Inflation Means Mortgage Rate Hikes Are More Likely To Stay

Worrying inflation data will reinforce market expectations that the Bank will need to raise interest rates higher and for longer, which are driving the increase in mortgage rates, the Resolution Foundation said on Wednesday 21 June 2023.   Inflation data in May was once again above market expectations.

Tax Gap Holds Steady At 4.8%

The amount of unpaid UK tax has remained at an all-time low of 4.8%, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) revealed today (22 June 2023).   The annual Measuring Tax Gaps publication estimates the difference between the total amount of tax expected to be paid and the total amount of tax actually paid, which has remained the same as last year's revised estimate of 4.8%.

Foreign Direct Investment Involving UK Companies

Investment of UK companies abroad (outward) and foreign companies into the UK (inward), including investment flows, positions and earnings, by country, component and industry.   Both the inward and the outward foreign direct investment (FDI) positions (stocks) increased in 2021 compared with 2020; the value of the UK's inward position increased by £83.1 billion to £2,002.4 billion, while the outward position increased by £16.0 billion to £1,769.3 billion.

Reducing Petrol and Diesel Prices Eases Transport Inflation Levels

The annual inflation rate for transport eased slightly from 1.6% in April 2023 to 1.3% in May.  This continues the broadly downward trend in the rate seen since June 2022.

Inflation Remains High For Food And Non-alcoholic Beverages

Food and non-alcoholic beverage prices rose by 18.4% in the year to May 2023, down from 19.1% in April and from 19.2% in March, which was the highest annual rate seen for over 45 years.  The latest easing in the annual rate reflects a monthly rise of 0.9% between April and May 2023, compared with a larger 1.5% increase between the same two months a year ago.

Producer Price Inflation UK - May 2023

Producer input prices rose by 0.5% in the year to May 2023, down from a rise of 4.2% in the year to April 2023.   Producer output (factory gate) prices rose by 2.9% in the year to May 2023, down from a rise of 5.2% in the year to April 2023.

No Respite Yet On Consumer Price Inflation, UK May 2023

The Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers' housing costs (CPIH) rose by 7.9% in the 12 months to May 2023, up from 7.8% in April.   On a monthly basis, CPIH rose by 0.6% in May 2023, compared with a rise of 0.6% in May 2022.

Uk House Price Index For April 2023

The UK HPI shows house price changes for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.   Average UK house prices increased by 3.5% in the 12 months to April 2023, down from 4.1% in March 2023.

UK Borrowing Second-highest Since Monthly Records Began In 1993

Public sector net borrowing (PSNB ex) in May 2023 was £20.0 billion, £10.7 billion more than in May 2022 and the second-highest May borrowing since monthly records began in 1993, with the growth in receipts being exceeded by the additional costs of the energy support schemes and increases in both benefit payments and staff costs.   PSNB ex in the financial year to May 2023 was £42.9 billion, £19.6 billion more than in the same two-month period last year and £2.1 billion higher than the £40.8 billion forecast by the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR).
