The Mortgage Crunch - Unlikely To Improve Soon with Worse To Come

Agencies Hail Scotland's Attractiveness For Foreign Investment

Scotland's enterprise and skills agencies have hailed the news that the country remains the most attractive location in the UK outside of London for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).   In EY's latest Scotland Attractiveness Survey published (Monday, 19 June 2023), the figures show that a record 126 inward investment projects were secured by Scotland in 2022, a 3.3% increase compared to 2021 when 122 FDI projects were attracted to the country.

Scotlands Death Rate Up 6% In First Quarter Of 2023 - births fell six per cent compared to the five year average

Scotland's death rate was six per cent higher than the five year average for the first quarter of 2023, according to new analysis by the National Records of Scotland.   The age-standardised mortality rate for January to March this year was 1,359 per 100,000 population.

SOURCE EMISSIONS A measure of the actual emissions or removals of greenhouse gases in Scotland, including international aviation and shipping.   In 2021, Scottish source emissions of the basket of seven greenhouse gases were estimated to be 41.6 million tonnes carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO2e).

The Chief Statistician has released figures on 2022-23 provisional outturn and 2023-24 budget estimates for revenue and capital services provided by local authorities.   In 2022-23, net revenue expenditure on local authority services was provisionally reported as £13,741 million in 2022-23 and budgeted as £13,891 million for 2023-24.

British Manufacturing Rebound Eases Recession Fears

British manufacturers are continuing to see a rebound in activity in the second quarter of the year, easing fears that the sector could face a significant recession.   A survey published by Make UK showed that the transport and electronic sectors were doing particularly well, reflecting the continued recovery in the aerospace sector with the increase in passenger miles, together with a spate of large orders for new aircraft over the last year.
