New OECD Figures Show UK Exports Have Grown Less Than Any Other G7 Country Since January 201

Analysis of the latest OECD monthly trade figures by ParcelHero shows the UK has experienced the lowest growth in the value of its exports of any G7 nation since January 2019.   Analysis of the latest monthly international trade statistics from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) for January 2023 reveals the value of the UK's exports was the lowest of all the G7 nations.

Food Prices See 25% Annual Rise Amid Vegetable Shortages In UK Supermarkets

Shoppers across the United Kingdom have had to limit the number of fresh fruit and vegetables in their trolleys over the past two weeks, as some of the biggest supermarket chains in the country have rationed their sales of salad vegetables.  The latest consumer price index (CPI) rose by 10.4% in the twelve months, while the most significant upward contributions to inflation were brought by housing and household services (26.6%), along with food and non-alcoholic beverages (18%).

Rising Inflation Will Continue To Cause Political Headaches For The Government, But Also For The Bank Of England

The Bank of England raised its main interest rate for the eleventh time in a row to 4.25% at its March meeting.  At its previous meeting in February the Bank was optimistic about the prospects for inflation in the coming year, saying: "We expect inflation to fall quickly this year." But in-between times, inflation hit 10.4%, with price increases for food and other essentials rising well above that rate.

Food Prices Push UK Shop Price Inflation To New High

Soaring food prices pushed annual inflation in British shops to its highest in at least 18 years in March, industry data showed on Tuesday 28 March 2023.   The British Retail Consortium said overall shop price inflation rose to 8.9% from 8.4% in February, the largest increase since the British Retail Consortium's (BRC) records started in 2005.

Food and Utility Prices Fuel Inflation in February

Increases in housing and housing services, most notably water, electricity and gas, contributed the most to the overall inflation in February, with prices having gone up by 26.6%, according to the Office for National Statistics.  Food prices, however, have also seen a huge rise - compared to the same period last year, they increased by 18%, data shows.

Covid-19 Spring Booster Programme Underway

Residents in care homes for older adults are receiving their spring COVID-19 booster from today (Monday) as the latest stage of the national vaccination programme gets underway.   Following recent advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), a spring booster dose will also be offered to those aged 75 and over from 11 April and individuals aged five and over with a weakened immune system from 24 April.

East Caithness Community Facility will remain closed to the public until further notice.

A spokesperson for High Life Highland has confirmed that the East Caithness Community Facility will remain closed to the public until further notice.   The spokesperson said, "The location's emergency procedures were implemented following a chemical-related incident this morning which resulted in the schools and community and sports facilities being evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Fife National Treatment Centre Opened By First Minister

A new state-of-the-art healthcare facility which will significantly increase national capacity for orthopaedic surgery has been opened by the First Minister.   Fife National Treatment Centre (NTC) will provide additional capacity for more than 700 orthopaedic procedures a year including hip and knee surgery, by 2025-26.
