New Business Award 2015 Winner: Dunnet Bay Distillers Seventeen businesses across the Highlands, islands and Cairngorms National Park area are celebrating wins from the area's most prestigious food and drink awards.   The awards recognise excellence across a range of businesses from artisan producers and large-scale food exporters to restaurants and farm shops.

Thirty-eight businesses across the Highlands, islands and Cairngorms National Park area have been shortlisted for the area's most prestigious food and drink awards.   Finalists ranged from new businesses to established producers; family-run restaurants to Michelin-starred establishments and demonstrated the strength and diversity of food and drink businesses across the region.

Annie's Bakery In Caithness Pick Up 2014 Award
The food and drink industry in the Highlands and Islands and within the Cairngorms National Park area has honoured this year's outstanding crop of businesses at its 10th annual awards dinner in Inverness on Friday (24th October 2014).   Over 300 industry representatives were in attendance to see which of the 41 businesses would scoop the 14 awards up for grabs on the evening.

Work has now finished at the most northerly gin distillery on mainland Britain with the final piece of equipment - a new still called ‘Elizabeth' – installed in the new custom-built distillery at Dunnet, Caithness.   Husband and wife team Martin and Claire Murray, the founders of Dunnet Bay Distillers have distilled and tested the first batches of Rock Rose gin and full production will be under way in time for the launch of the new micro distillery on the 21 August.  
Major Children's Food Festival Announced for June 2015
A brand new children's food festival will take place in the North Highlands in the summer of 2015 it has been announced.   Created and organised by the North Highland Initiative (NHI) in partnership with Scotland Food & Drink, the festival will take place from 5 and 6 June 2015 and aims to highlight the importance of local food production, how to make great cuisine and good food choices and the variety of career opportunities in food production and service.

A Caithness based processor and supplier of locally sourced shellfish is to further expand its premises to help manage the growing worldwide demand for its products.   Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) is supporting JPL Shellfish with a grant of £60,000 which will also allow the company to increase its workforce.

The finest talent in the Highlands and Islands food and drink industry gathered in Inverness on Friday (25th October 2013) to celebrate this years Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards.   It was a nail-biting finale as 41 businesses awaited the announcement of the winners of 12 awards, with victorious businesses ranging from breweries, bakeries, restaurants and retailers to producers of premium Scottish seafood, salt and cheese.

A Caithness based processor and supplier of locally sourced shellfish which recently expanded its business is celebrating 20 years of success based at Scrabster harbour.   JPL Shellfish has been serving customers across the UK since it was established in 1992, and an increase in requests to export live shellfish to new international markets has resulted in an expansion of its premises.  
A Malt Is Born In Wick
Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead saw a little bit of history being made during a recent visit to Wick's Pulteney Distillery.   A 40 year old single malt has been launched by the distillery - the oldest whisky the company has ever released.

Reids Of Caithness Makes The Shortlist For Scottish Baker Of The Year
Thanks to the residents of Thurso, Reids of Caithness has been recognised by a panel of expert judges as producing one of the best individual cakes in the land - a Crofters Cake.   Customers from across Scotland voted for their best bakery products during March and the top 30 products in each of the 5 categories were baked and delivered to Fife for judging by a panel of independent experts led by artisan Robert Ross including retired master bakers with extensive experience of the bakery sector in Scotland.
