3,000 Jobs Created In One Year By ‘resilient' Uk Space Sector

The number of UK space jobs continued to grow into 2020, despite the global impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to new figures released today.   Employment in the UK space sector hit 46,995 in 2020, up from 44,040 in 2019: an increase of 2,955 (6.7%).

Impact of UK Government policies on families in Scotland.   A new report estimates 70,000 people in Scotland, including 30,000 children, would be lifted out of poverty by 2024 if UK Government welfare reforms introduced since 2015 were reversed.

Scottish National Surfing Championships Returns To Thurso To Crown New Champions

Scotland's premier surfing tournament, the Scottish National Surfing Championships, returns this month to crown new champions.   The three day Scottish Surfing Federation event runs from 15 to 17 April and takes place at its usual Highland home in Thurso where surfers from across the country will compete to crown a new Scottish National Open Men's Champion, Scottish National Open Women's Champion, Scottish National Longboard Champion and Scottish National Masters Champion.

£5 Million To Develop Carbon Dioxide Utilisation Technology

A new fund to help develop the emerging CO2 utilisation technology has been launched.   The CO2 Utilisation Challenge Fund will help businesses and organisations develop and commercialise the technology, which involves harnessing and converting CO2 - the biggest contributor to climate change emissions - and using it to produce valuable products such as synthetic fuels and proteins for use in aquaculture.

British Army deploys air defence assets to Poland and Ukraine

The United Kingdom has announced it is sending another powerfully reassuring signal to our NATO partners of the capabilities that can be brought to bear, should they ever be threatened by an aggressive neighbour, especially in this time of heightened anxiety following the Kremlin's assault on Ukraine, just across the border.   The Defence Secretary announced last week that the UK would deploy the Sky Sabre medium-range, anti-air missile system to Poland with about 100 personnel to help protect her airspace.

UK to bolster defensive aid to Ukraine with new £100m package

The new support will include more anti-tank missiles and air defence systems, as well as loitering munitions and non-lethal aid like helmets, body armour and night vision goggles.   he UK will provide a further package of military aid to Ukraine, the Prime Minister announced today.
