Availability Of Lactating Cow Intramammary Antibiotics

Marketing Authorisation Holders (MAHs) have informed the VMD of supply problems with the following lactating cow intramammary antibiotics.   Note: * These are defined as a Highest Priority Critically Important Antibiotics for human medicine and, under the Red Tractor farm assurance scheme for beef and dairy, should be used as a last resort and supported by sensitivity and/or diagnostic testing.

New Package To Support And Enforce Self-isolation - £500 To Stay Home For Low Income People

A new package has been announced to support and enforce self-isolation.   People will be required by law to self-isolate from 28 September, supported by payment of £500 for those on lower incomes who cannot work from home and have lost income as a result.

Hundreds of organisations are stepping up to help Britain build back better by supporting smaller employers to give youth a chance and take advantage of the Government's landmark Kickstart Scheme.   More than 500 bodies have signed up to serve as gateways on the £2bn programme, providing assistance to employers offering fewer than 30 vacancies under the scheme.

Metaldehyde, A Pesticide Used To Control Slugs Banned From March 2022

The outdoor use of metaldehyde, a pesticide used to control slugs on farms and in gardens, is set to be banned in Great Britain from the end of March 2022 in order to better protect wildlife and the environment, farming Minister Victoria Prentis announced today.   The decision takes into account advice from the UK Expert Committee on Pesticides (ECP) and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) about the risks that metaldehyde poses to birds and mammals.

Ending Scotland's throwaway culture

A new report sets out how we must focus on reducing our dependence on single-use items and highlights the impact the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has had on people's behaviour, with new single-use items becoming part of everyday life.   It proposes five principles that can be used to consider how single-use items like cups, cutlery and sauce sachets can be reduced or replaced with alternatives to help combat waste and support Scotland's journey to net zero.

FORT WILLIAM, Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd., (September, 19th) sold 365 weaned calves and store cattle, 16 OTM cattle and 5 adult head of breeding cattle.   Bullocks (205) averaged 268.4p (+48.1p on the year) and sold to 352.9p per kg for a 170kg Limousin cross from 5 Burnside, Argyll, and £945 gross for a pen of 410kg Limousin crosses from Lurignish Farm, Appin..

Make sure you check guidance before importing and exporting products which are covered by CITES.   As this year's London Fashion Week gets underway, the government is urging consumers and the fashion industry to check new guidance effective from January 2021 around importing and exporting products which are covered by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

Helping High Growth Start-ups - Creating jobs of the future

High growth start-up companies and university spinout projects will receive grants to help them grow in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.   Part of a £3 million package of support, the funding provides grants of up to £50,000 for 41 high growth potential start-ups and up to £130,000 for 16 spinout projects.

Patients and clinicians have welcomed the expansion of virtual medical and mental health appointments following the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, according to a survey.   The Near Me video system, originally designed to serve rural communities, was scaled up from March to ensure patient and staff safety during the pandemic.

Halsary Windfarm in Caithness Now Under Construction

Turbine parts for the Halsary Wind farm near Spittal began arriving at Wick harbour this week with more arriving on Sunday 20th September 2020.   15 turbines capable of producing 30 mg will be erected to a height of 120 metres to the blade tips.
