For the past few years to campaigns in Caithness and Elgin have been dealing with their health boards - NHS Highland and NHS Grampian. Both groups have mounted a seemingly endless campaigns to save once excellent services - well regarded by their respective populations.
Planning permission was granted yesterday for a 32,670 square foot site that will house a distillery, visitor centre and bonded warehouse. The new micro distillery at John O'Groats has secured a grant from Highland and Islands Enterprise of £198,000.

ABERDEEN Science Centre has launched a new Highland and Islands outreach programme to give communities in rural and remote areas the opportunity to learn more about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) activities and opportunities. This project, the first of its type to be developed and delivered by Aberdeen Science Centre, is being led by Andrew Johnston who is based in Dingwall and Fiona Mackenzie who will work from Aultbea, Wester Ross, and managed by Dr.

Plans to boost early learning and childcare (ELC) hours have made steady progress but risks around buildings and staffing remain, say public sector watchdogs. he Scottish Government and councils are working well together to increase ELC hours from 600 to 1,140 a year from August 2020.

The Health Secretary has finally admitted the Scottish Government will bailout NHS Highland to help the health authority deal with bullying and harassment cases. Highlands and Islands Labour MSP, David Stewart, lodged a Parliamentary Question asking what funding the Government had agreed to give NHS Highland for the "healing" process and the investigation of allegations of bullying and harassment of staff previously employed by the NHS board.

Figures obtained by Scottish Labour from SPICe have revealed that local government non-ringfenced revenue funding has been cut by £898.8m in real terms between 2013-14 and 2020-21. Despite the SNP's claim to have provided a fair deal for local government at this year's budget, these numbers demonstrate that councils will continue to face brutal cuts to important budgets this year.
Highland Council today announced its biggest ever single investment in roads with an extra £20million capital announced in its budget proposals for the year 2020/21. The budget proposals were announced by Budget Leader Alister MacKinnon at a press conference at Highland Council headquarters.
Following the close of nominations at 12 noon on Wednesday 26 February 2020, the outcome is as follows. 2 Community Councils received more nominations than their maximum membership, which means that postal ballots will now be held for Rogart Community Council and Strathnairn Community Council.

Electronic monitoring and tracking of vessels is part of a package of measures being taken to protect Scotland's inshore fleet. The programme, which will monitor boats in inshore waters, will help establish local fisheries management arrangements and empower local fishers and their coastal communities.

The Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) has expressed alarm at the impact the Scottish Government's Budget will have on councils' ability to tackle child poverty. COSLA warned that the Government has not considered successive years of cuts, or rising inflation and demand and have therefore put the Government’s own 2030 Child Poverty targets at risk.
