Directors Sought For High Life Highland Board
An opportunity has arisen for people with an interest in community learning and leisure services in Highland communities to become involved as Directors of the board of High Life Highland and its trading subsidiary to deliver these services on behalf of The Highland Council.   The Council has agreed to establish High Life Highland as a company limited by guarantee (with charitable status) with the Council as the sole member and with a wholly owned trading subsidiary.

Adult Basic Education looking for new volunteers
The Highland Council's Adult Basic Education Co-ordinator for Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey is seeking volunteers to help locals with their learning.   Mohamed Hamada, ABE Co-ordinator is looking for people who might be interested in becoming voluntary tutors.

Go ahead for health, education and social care integration project Members of The Highland Council and directors of NHS Highland have unanimously confirmed their intention to progress far-reaching plans to integrate health, education and social care services in the Highlands.   The target date for implementation is April 2012, using a lead agency model that would see NHS Highland provide services for adult community care and the Council providing services for children.

Caithness and Sutherland biodiversity groups join forces to record bats (11/05/11) People in Caithness and Sutherland are being invited to join a survey of bats in the north which is being organised by the Caithness and Sutherland Biodiversity Groups and Highland Council's Countryside Rangers.   Very little is known about bats in the area and there are large gaps in records of bat numbers, roosting sites and even species of bats.

Dingwall & Highland Marts - Sale 12 May 2011
DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts, (May, 12th) sold 1,115 store, breeding and feeding sheep.  Lambs (219) averaged £70.35 and sold to £103.00 gross for Crosses from Tullochgribban, Dulnain Bridge.  
Mey Market First Day Success
After all the months of planning, wondering if the idea would work, and waiting for stallholders to come forward, it was a great boost yesterday to see so many locals and visitors coming in to see us.  We already have a waiting list of potential stallholders but we are fully booked for the whole season at the present time.

Integration Of Highland Health and Social Work Services
Planning for Integration - development of a lead agency model in Highland for care services Members of The Highland Council and directors of NHS Highland will be asked on Thursday 12th May to agree far-reaching plans to integrate health, education and social care services in the Highlands by April 2012, using a lead agency model that would see NHS Highland provide services for adult community care and the Council providing services for children.   The first of two joint meetings is being held on Thursday 12 May at the Council Chamber in Inverness to agree that the case for change, first proposed in December of last year, is proven and to confirm that the lead agency model is the preferred way of delivering integrated services.

Royal Wedding Celebrations In Highland Schools
Over thirty schools in the Highlands will be celebrating the wedding of HRH Prince William to Catherine Middleton on 29 April with organised events and activities involving over 4,000 pupils, teachers and local communities.   Many schools are organising mock weddings, various street parties, and wedding feasts.

Council Pressing Hard To Retain Tug On West Coast
Council remains vigilant in campaign to retain full coastguard and tug services.   The Highland Council has assured rescue staff in the Western Isles of its total support for the retention of a 24 x 7 coastguard service in Stornoway and the emergency towing vessel that patrols the Minches from its Stornoway base.

Postal Voters Uged To Make Their Vote Count
A record number of Highland electors have applied to vote by post at the Scottish Parliamentary elections and the national referendum on the UK voting system on Thursday 5 May.   A total of 25,137 electors across the three Highland constituencies of Caithness, Sutherland and Ross; Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch and Inverness and Nairn will be receiving their postal votes from tomorrow (Tuesday).

The Highland Council has submitted its latest Development Plan Scheme to Scottish Ministers.   This document sets out the key pieces of work being undertaken by the Development Plans Team over the coming year, and sets out how people can get involved with these projects.

Council Seeks Views On Planning For Wind Energy
The Highland Council has prepared new planning guidance for wind energy developments and now wants to hear what the people of the Highlands, developers and interest groups think about it.   The new guidance will be used in the consideration of planning applications for wind energy developments.

Network For Public Sector Employees Launched
Disabled employees of 9 public sector organisations have joined forces to set up a network to work with employers to improve, enhance and promote equality in the work place.  The Employees Disability Equality Network (EDEN) was officially launched in Inverness in response to calls from public sector staff.

Thousands take up the Red Tape Challenge
Thousands of businesses and members of the public have taken up the Red Tape Challenge, with over 6,000 ideas and suggestions in the first week of the new website, which is part of the Plan for Growth.   Comments have called for changes to, and the end of, many of the rules and regulations that affect the retail sector, from Sunday Trading to bike safety.
