A major programme milestone has been achieved with the placement of the first low level waste disposed into the new Low Level Waste Facilities at Dounreay. DSRL were granted planning permission to construct up to six vaults in April 2009.
Week Commencing 18 May 2015 Energy & Business Services Following mention in last week's email about current activity at the Forss Business & Technology Park, it is good to see the coverage in today's (Friday's) press about the partnership between Abbey Ecosse and Enercon, which will see Enercon establishing a service base at Forss for its operations and maintenance personnel in the north. This is one of several developments being worked on for the Park, and new jobs are likely to result from this.

‘Wet pub sector' to be examined. The Scottish Government will commission research to help determine if those working in the tied ‘wet pub sector’ are unfairly disadvantaged compared to other pub tenanted models, Business Minster Fergus Ewing announced at a members debate held in the Scottish Parliament today.

£9.8 million additional investment in primary care. General practitioners in Scotland will receive an independently recommended one per cent pay increase in 2015/16, the Scottish Government has confirmed today.

Far reaching strategies for improving the success rate of Head Teacher recruitment in the Highlands are being devised by The Highland Council. Members of the Council's Education, Children and Adult Services Committee have taken part in local workshops with Education staff to consider strategies to address the current challenges facing the recruitment of Head Teachers in the region.
COUNCILLORS have expressed concerns over the closure of banks in Highland communities. Chair of Resources Committee Maxine Smith responded to the announcement that RBS is to close its branch in Invergordon, where there are no remaining banks.

A local businessman has given a Formal Undertaking in court in Inverness to not mislead consumers following action by Highland Council Trading Standards. Donald MacLean, the owner of Bearnock Country Centre, Bearnock Country Cottages and the Bearnock Hostel Glenurquhart, Drumnadrochit, made the pledge in Inverness Sheriff Court after Trading Standards had applied for an Order under the Enterprise Act 2002.

Energy North - Caithness Showcase 26th May 2015, Mackays Hotel, Wick Energy North will hold it's Caithness Showcase on the 26th of May at the Mackays Hotel in Wick. This will be an all day event to showcase just what's happening in Caithness in terms of the energy industry in 2015 and what Caithness has to offer.

Leaders from five of the major parties came together on Monday 18th May 2015 to add their names to almost half a million people calling for a fairer voting system. In a rare show of unity from across the political spectrum, figures including Green Party leader Natalie Bennett appeared alongside UKIP's Nigel Farage and Douglas Carswell MP to call for voting reform, following the most disproportionate electoral result in British history.
The public is being asked for its views on proposals by The Highland Council to review the maximum level of charges for the hire of taxis or private hire cars fitted with taxi meters operating under licence of The Highland Council. The Council has a statutory duty in terms of Section 17 of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 to review its scales for the fares and other taxi related charges every 18 months.

THE Highland Council and Police Scotland aim to prevent child sexual exploitation in the Highlands by raising awareness of the signs of abuse. Children's Services in Highland have been working in close partnership with Police Scotland and built on established positive relationships to tackle this form of sexual abuse which can impact on young people.

The annual Local Scrutiny Plan (LSP) 2015-16 for Highland Council has been published by the Local Area Network, which consists of representatives of six scrutiny bodies including Audit Scotland, Education Scotland, the Care Inspectorate, HMICS, HMFSI, and the Scottish Housing Regulator. The Local Scrutiny Plan shows no additional scrutiny is required of the Council during 2015-16, over and above planned external scrutiny through scheduled audits and inspection activity.
After almost 21 years of training chefs, beauticians and hairdressers, the North Highland College UHI's House of Morven would like to invite past students, employers, staff and graduates back for a 21st birthday party on Monday 1st June. The House of Morven originally opened its doors on 6th June 1994 and has since seen thousands of students begin their careers within the service industries with them.
