STORNOWAY, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (August, 26th) sold 3,938 store sheep of all classes.   Lambs (3675) averaged £51.98 (+ £3.89 on the year) sold to £91.50 per head for a pair of Texel crosses from 2A Back, Lewis.

£5.2 Billion To Be Invested In Social Security Support
Social security expenditure in Scotland will total £5.2 billion in 2026-27, according to the Scottish Fiscal Commission's latest forecast report published today.   The amount spent is projected to increase by £1.5 billion over the five years due to a variety of reasons including an increase in benefits provided, inflationary rises to payments, Scotland’s ageing population increasing caseloads for payments to support the pension age group and more children and working-age people receiving disability benefits.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (August 26th) sold 7844 store lambs at their annual sale.   Cheviot wedder lambs (3,833) averaged £61.80 (+£13.94 on the year) and sold to £100 gross from Carrol Farm, Brora.

Vigilance Urged As Schools Feel Impact Of Covid Increase
As confirmed cases of COVID rise across the NHS Highland area, local schools, which saw pupils returning last week after the summer holidays, have begun to feel the impact.   From 16 - 22 August, NHS Highland saw over 1000 cases which represents almost 10% of our total case count for the whole pandemic in a single week.

Diligent Work Of Highland Council's Welfare Support Team Praised By Members
Members of the Corporate Resources Committee have praised the exemplary work of the Council's Welfare Support Team after they were presented with a comprehensive report today (25 August) highlighting the strong performance from the team in assisting Highland residents.   Members' attention was specifically drawn to the following key points: More than 20,600 residents were supported by the Council’s Welfare Support Team and Citizens Advice during 2020/21 with welfare, debt and housing advice services, resulting in excess of 61,600 contacts (on average, 3 contacts per client);.

Investment In North East Workers - Creating 3,000 Training Opportunities
More than £14 million will be invested to support North East based workers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Oil and Gas downturn.   The funding will provide opportunities for more than 3,000 individuals in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire through training and enterprise projects across a number of sectors, including entrepreneurship, tourism and energy transition.

NHS Recovery Plan - More than £1 billion to improve care and tackle backlog
The Scottish Government has published its NHS Recovery Plan, committing more than £1 billion of targeted investment for the recovery and renewal of Scotland's health service.   It sets out key actions for the next five years to help address backlogs in healthcare and increase capacity by at least 10%.
