ANDRITZ to supply tidal current turbines to MeyGen

ANDRITZ HYDRO Hammerfest, part of international technology Group ANDRITZ, has received an order from MeyGen Ltd. to supply three 1.5-megawatt tidal current turbines to the planned tidal array in the Inner Sound of the Pentland Firth, Scotland.
Tidal current turbines are anchored to the sea bed in coastal waters and driven by rising and falling tides. Commissioning of the three turbines is scheduled for the end of 2016.
The order placed with ANDRITZ HYDRO Hammerfest is the first commercial order worldwide to supply tidal current turbines and part of the first project phase in completion of the MeyGen tidal array, which is the largest development project worldwide for a tidal turbine array. In the long-term, MeyGen is planning to install a total of 269 turbines with an overall output of 398 megawatts, which will provide predictable, renewable, and sustainable energy for 175,000 Scottish households.

It is MeyGen's intention to start onshore construction at Ness of Quoys near to the village of Mey early next year and they are planning on holding two open days next week in order to assist with any questions about the works and the project in general. Members of the MeyGen team will be on hand between 11am - 9pm on Tuesday 16th December at Mey Hall and 11am - 9pm on Wednesday 17th December at Caithness Horizons.

Mojo Maritime has signed a contract with James Fisher Marine Services (JFMS) which will see them provide significant marine operational and engineering expertise to the construction phase of the MeyGen Inner Sound tidal project. Over the next two years, Mojo will work closely with JFMS carrying out the detailed design, planning and execution of the subsea cable, foundation and turbine installation.
MeyGen Ltd's Chief Executive Officer Mr Dan Pearson to speak in public about progress with its Marine Power Station on 22nd October 2014. Mr Dan Pearson, the Chief Executive Officer of MeyGen Ltd, is to address folk in North East Caithness from the platform at Mey Village Hall, in NE Caithness, on the evening of Wednesday October 22nd at 7:30 pm.
In recent weeks members of the Caithness public may have noticed some activity by MeyGen Ltd. around the Pentland Firth Inner Sound and at Ness of Quoys.
Up to six turbines will be initially placed in the Inner Sound of the Pentland Firth off the north coast of Caithness, Scotland, the first phase of what developers hope will be a much larger project. MeyGen Ltd.

One of the first companies to get going with their plans to extract the huge energy potential form the Pentland Firth is Meygen. Their plans were unveiled to Caithness people at Mey Hall a few days ago.
MeyGen today announces entry into an 'Agreement for Lease' with The Crown Estate for the Pentland Firth Inner Sound tidal power site. MeyGen is a joint venture between independent power generator International Power plc (45%), investment bank Morgan Stanley (45%), and tidal technology provider Atlantis Resources Corporation (10%), dedicated to developing the Inner Sound tidal site.
