STORNOWAY, Dingwall & Highland Marts., (December, 11th) sold 27 cattle and 309 sheep of all classes at its Christmas show and sale.
The prime cattle champion judged by Mr I. W. Scott, 34 Newmarket, Stornoway, was a 595kg Aberdeen Angus cross bullock from No. 12 Lionel, Port of Ness, realising 260p per kg and £1547 gross to W. J. Macdonald, Butchers, Francis Street, Stornoway. The reserve award went to a 625kg Aberdeen Angus cross heifer from No. 1 Gress, which realised 200p per kg and £1250 also to W. J. Macdonald. The champion award for prime sheep, also judged by Mr Scott, was 45.5kg Beltex crosses from C. Macleod, Crobeag, Steinish, which realised 175.8p per kg and £80 gross, with reserve going to Cheviots also from Crobeag, realising 150p per kg and £75 gross.
Prime bullocks (ten) averaged 161p and sold to 260p per kg and £1547 gross for the champion, a 595kg Aberdeen Angus cross from No. 12 Lionel.
Prime heifers (two) averaged 179p and sold to 200p per kg and £1250 gross for the reserve, an Aberdeen Angus cross from No. 1 Gress.
Prime lambs (84) averaged 95.3p and sold to 175.8p per kg and £80 gross for the champions, a pair of Beltex crosses from Lighthill.
Store bullocks (seven) sold to 130p per kg for an Aberdeen Angus from No 43 Habost, Ness, and £455 gross for a Charolais cross from No. 9 Fivepenny, Borve.
Store heifers (five) sold to 108.7p per kg for a Limousin from Lighthill, and £320 gross for a Limousin from No. 5 Rhenigidale.
Store sheep (225) sold to £35 for Cheviot ewes from No. 13 Cross Skigersta Road, Ness.
