DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (September, 9th) sold 9411 store lambs.
Cheviot wedder lambs (8161) averaged £67.94 and sold to £130 gross for a pen of lambs from Burnbank, Isle of Canna.
Cheviot ewe lambs (749) averaged £68.24 and sold to £120 gross for a pen of lambs from Milton Croft, Edderton.
All other breeds (501) averaged £71.68 and sold to £97 gross for a pen of Suffolk crosses from 17 Mellon Charles, Aultbea.
"An animated trade greeted vendors today as buyers from as south as Norfolk flocked to purchase genuine hill cheviots. Lambs and the vendors didn't disappoint with the quality put forward. A huge amount of credit must go to the vendors for the quality of stock they produced and the trade they received was phenomenal, As the sale averaged a exceptional £68 per head for all classes sold and many intended purchases venturing home empty handed."
